Sora lifted his eyes to Max's bare back as he tugged his shirt upward. Sora winced at the sight of the large splotchy bruise infecting his skin. That was a serious injury, for such a young kid to have from bullying. A very familiar feeling erupted beneath Sora's stoic features, protectiveness. A dark, and sinister vision flashed across Sora's thoughts. Going out and making whoever did this pay. Max wasn't even that close to him--yet--but... no one should be treated this way. His fists tightened, his knuckles turning a ghastly white.
"I know what trying to face my problems gets me, but that doesn't make me feel like any less of a coward."
The blonde swallowed the fiery bits of rage that burned the back of his throat, he went to open his mouth and found himself without a thing to say. What could he say to Max? Nothing other than, "If you ever need help with those bastards, I'll help you kick the shit out of them." Sora said in a half playful tone, holding a thumbs up toward him. He didn't want to sound scary, but he wanted to let his roommate know that he had his back. And if he ever saw those guys, he would beat them senseless.
"Sure, what did you have in mind?"
Sora matched Max's smirk with one of his own, "Well nothing big, maybe we could just chill here, spill war stories, dance, sing, act, whatever you want to do. Unless you wanna go on a date or something, but... you're buying." He was clearly joking, and he hoped Max knew he was.

The blonde winced as his gaze connected with the large, bluish-purple mark. Max could see the look in his roommate's eyes, but couldn't quite decipher it. The expression Sora held was fierce, and caring at the same time, somehow. Max had no idea what to make of it. Sora's knuckles turned white. "If you ever need help with those bastards, I'll help you kick the shit out of them." He sounded like he was hoping to come off as playful, relaxed, even giving Max a thumbs up, but Sora just looked angry now. Max didn't know how to respond. He had known Sora for maybe a half an hour, but the blonde was already threatening the lives of people he didn't know simply because they'd hit Max a bit too hard and left a mark. They'd said that was my fault. Max scoffed inwardly. Then, the blonde cracked a smirk, and Max let out a breath he had no clue he had been holding in. "Well nothing big, maybe we could just chill here, spill war stories, dance, sing, act, whatever you want to do. Unless you wanna go on a date or something, but... you're buying." Sora joked, lightening the mood considerably. Max cocked his head to the side. "Well, damn, I like that last option, but I'm broke for the moment, however..." The brunette trailed off, standing shakily and walking toward his roommate until he was right next to him, reaching up onto his top bunk and fishing around haphazardly for his iPod. Retrieving the device, Max plugged it into the docking station on his desk, shuffling through the odd collection of music he had -- Japanese bands, American bands, some stuff he'd tried to record but failed, hence why I'm an 'actor' -- before settling on a song he'd had stuck in his head the day before. The brunette cranked the volume loud, whirling to face his roommate again. "Teach me how to dance!" he told him, shouting to be heard over the song. Max knew the lyrics -- and could sing them fairly well -- but, when it came to dancing, he was the worst. "C'mon!"(OOC: Here's the song Max picked!)

"Well, damn, I like that last option, but I'm broke for the moment, however..."
"Ah!" Sora laughed, "Well then you owe me a bro date." It was nice to have a guy friend to joke around with. He couldn't really remember a time where he had a true guy friend that wasn't just after him for his sister. Yes, his sister was kind of a heart breaker... just like her brother. Except, he would kill anyone that put a hand on her, and he didn't have anyone like that for him.
Sora ducked out of the way as Max reached up for something on his bed. He had no idea that Max was going to take out an ipod. "Teach me how to dance! C'mon!" Dancing? Really? Sora really did not think that was going to be his choice.
He laughed and stood up, "I just know how to dance, I have no idea how to teach someone how to... but I'll try." Sora began to show Max some dance moves, slowly, so he could try to take them in. "You could do this in public, to impress a girl you like or something!" He winked, "The trick to dancing is just listening to the music and moving with it." Sora was seriously at a loss, dancing was natural to him... he didn't know how to teach someone to do it. It would be like trying to explain to someone how to breathe air.

Max laughed -- for the first time in a long time -- while Sora tried to teach him a few moves. He was glad to have found a friend in Sora, instead of something that could be misconstrued as hatred -- which is initially what I thought it would be. Max wouldn't have known what to do with himself if Sora had hated him.
"You could do this in public, to impress a girl you like or something!" Sora said, winking.
Glancing toward the swaying blonde, Max laughed again, wondering why on earth something would possess him to dance in public. He didn't ask, instead, he leaned over the desk and turned the music down -- shouting himself hoarse when auditions for the fall plays were coming up wasn't a good idea.
"Alright, I admit that was a bad idea on my part," Max said, still chuckling as he turned back to his friend, leaning on the desk behind him. He was smiling, and he hadn't smiled like that in... shit, in months now. "But what the hell is a 'bro-date'?"
The brunette figured it entailed leaving campus -- biggest fear at the moment, other than falling out of bed in the middle of the night and breaking my arm --, and Max didn't know to what extent Sora would -- or could -- protect him. It was silly to rely on someone he had just met that morning to keep Max safe, but Sora was all he had -- and Asuka -- and the boy had promised, but, what if Sora realized he couldn't -- wouldn't? -- do it?
He was thinking too much, and letting things slip out that he didn't mean to. "And, uh, does it require going off campus, be-because...?" Max asked, his eyes suddenly a bit larger than they were a moment ago. The boy didn't want Sora to see him panicking -- trying to be strong for him, too -- but it was a difficult thing to conceal. Max needed to man up, but the thought of encountering the two boys that had bruised him up like he was terrified him beyond words.

"Alright, I admit that was a bad idea on my part, but what the hell is a 'bro-date'?"
Sora laughed, leaning his back against the bunk bed, "A bro-date is like... us hanging out. Just me and you, as bros." He smiled, shrugging. He brushed his blond lanky strips of bangs out of his face and and shivered. He felt gross. The dried blood, the sweat, the night on the rooftop... all of it just made him feel disgusting.
When Sora looked back up to Max's wide eyes he tilted his head, "Um I mean... we don't have to leave campus if you don't want to." Sora drew his eyes to his toward the dirt and grime he could feel piling up on his skin, "Uh, I think I'm going to go shower. I kinda feel like I'm going to get some sort of disease if I don't clean all of this." He grabbed a towel and headed toward the bathroom, "See you later Maxxie."
