Akio brightened up - he finally understood! Akio felt accomplished and proud that he was able to help Haru just a bit. "That's great!" He said while he moved his lollipop around his mouth slowly.
"...Well that's... one out of twenty." Akio sighed as he dreadfully stared at the pile of papers the kid had that he called 'homework'. He almost forgot what it was like having a burden like this permanently on your shoulders when you were in high school.
"So, what do you say?" Akio said while smiling. "Want to do all of your homework now, or do it alone when you're back at your dorm?" Akio said confidently, having faith in Haru and knowing that he could at least do some of this on his own.
He looked at his wrist watch. "It's 12:40".. he said to the other, "When's your next class?"

Finally feeling a bit more confident, Haru continued to the next question, hoping that if he just did the same things over and over, he'd remember. The last thing he wanted was to waste Mr. Kajima's time any longer, and just as he was about to excuse himself, he spoke up.
"So, what do you say? Want to do all of your homework now, or do it alone when you're back at your dorm?"
Haru set the pen down and smiled. "Well, I think I should try this myself for a while. If I got it once, I should be able to do it again if I try." He said, and started to pack away his books.
"It's 12:40" The counselor said, looking at his watch. "When's your next class?"
Pausing suddenly, Haru had to think. He knew what class he had to go to, but... the time. "I uh... don't... know how to tell time. I just kind of wait for the bells..."

Akio felt a bit sad that his first student was leaving - Spending the whole day here in this depressing office alone was going to take a lot out of him. But, he respected his decisions and let it go with a small nod and smile. "I'm proud of you, Haru!" He said while helping him pack up. "If you need help, I'm always here." He reassured in a happy tone, hoping that he'd see him again. Although he was a student, he was sure that he could be a friend as well, right?
"Well then, you should get going! The bell goes off 12:50!"

"I'm proud of you, Haru!"
Haru's eyes widened, and he froze. No one had ever said that to him. Most people gave up, or told him he was hopeless, or just kicked him aside. He smiled and put his bag over his shoulder, and stood up. "N-No one's ever said that to me before." he said softly.
"If you need help, I'm always here."
This was getting hard to listen to. What did he do to deserve another person's kindness? Whatever it was, he decided that he'd do something to show his appreciation at some point. There had to be something this Akio Kajima wanted that he could give to him.
"Well then, you should get going! The bell goes off 12:50!"
Nodding, Haru waved and headed for the door, his heart beating out of his chest. He'd never even had a friend before, and now he felt more sure of himself. "I think my heart is going to explode," he whispered to himself, stepping out of the office. "Can you die from being too happy?"

Akio smiled at the boy's outgoingness, something that he wish he had.
As Haru left the door, Akio could've swore that he heard the boy say something - but he couldn't make it out. He just sighed, thinking that he needs to get used to the fact that Haru usually talks to himself. He waved, "I hope to see you again, Haru."
He got another lollipop out of his drawer and put it in his mouth, sitting down on his chair watching the boy leave. He slowly took off his tie and sighed, "Well, that's one student..." Akio said to himself, softly humming, hoping the other people he'd help would be as interesting as Haru.
