Character(s): Ken Hirayama / his fangirls anyone else Time: 2 PM Location: Rooftop
Ken blinked out at the afternoon sun, fingers tangled in the mesh of the fence, a gentle breeze ghosting over the expanse of the rooftop. Under his skin nestled a thick, swirling feeling of emptiness, like he'd shirked something very important in order to be where he was at this very moment, although he knew better. He simply wasn't used to doing something for himself. His entire life had been planned around the safety and happiness of his younger sisters - a big brother in every sense of the word - and now that he was free he didn't feel quite so liberated as he did drifting away from comfort, an island of his own.
He sighed, grasping at his pocket for the cigarettes he knew were not there and hung his head. Everything before this day seemed lost to him, like he'd been released from a prison sentence. He wasn't sure to to rehabilitate himself quite yet. Ken watched the bustling students, several stories down, looking so much like colorful little ants. The thought of blending in had never seemed so inconceivable to him before.

Halfway out the door that opened to the rooftop, Chiaki had frozen, staring directly at the blonde man whose hand was currently ensnared in the chain-link fence. Who is he? Chiaki thought, I should have noticed him before—blonde’s not a popular hair colour for guys. But, for whatever reason, this was the first time he’d ever laid eyes on said blonde. Briefly, he wondered if he was a teacher for one of the other majors—there were plenty of staff members that he had yet to meet—but decided it would be better to walk up right away and say hello rather than coming up with unprovable theories.
”Hiya~” said Chiaki, waltzing cheerily up to the man, joining him in gazing listlessly through the fence. He felt a tad dwarfed by the man’s height, but, then again, most boys his age had surpassed his meager stature. ”Whatcha looking for?”

"Huh?" Ken blinked down at the tiny stranger and pulled back a bit, momentarily unnerved by the sudden company. "Oh, nothing. Just getting the feel for the school, I guess."
He tried to smile but could feel it forced on his face. I'm probably scaring the damn kid, he thought. "Anyway, what're you doing up here? Don't you have a class or something right now?"
He mentally kicked himself. Now it sounds like I'm trying to get rid of him.
Ken squirmed uncomfortably, feeling too big for his own skin. He was blowing it. Hadn't even been here a day, and he was already blowing it.

Easily, Chiaki let his back lean against the fence as the man took a few steps backward, looking fairly lost as he responded. His smile felt a little bit too contrived, painted on over something else that he didn’t want other people to see. Chiaki was good at reading people through their body language and voice patterns—the blonde was uncomfortable, unhappy, something. ”Nah, I don’t have anything else!” sang the boy, metal rings clashing against each other as he leaned back a little further before bouncing back up.
Wait, ‘getting a feel for the school’? Chiaki thought, suddenly realising what the man’s earlier statement had implied. ”Hey, are you new here?” he asked, wondering if the other was simply anxious towards his new surroundings.
