Character(s): Amaya Nakamura, Kenji Takuto Time: 9:52 PM Location: Rooftop -----------------------------------------
It was getting pretty dark, not a suitable time to be outside. After all, it was almost curfew, and everyone was inside the dorms. Amaya proved to be an exception. It was possible that she wasn't the only one roaming about, but she felt as if she were the only person on the planet right now. The wind was going strong, as it usually was on September nights. She pulled her thin jacket closer to her, hoping that it would provide at least some warmth- which unfortunately, it hardly did.
This time, she had ended up on the rooftop, looking out over the campus. It was quite a sight, especially at night, with all the lights turned on, decorating the place and making it stand out in the blanket of darkness. A small, happy sigh escaped her, for she was completely content in her stay here. Her time as a student at Aozora so far had been interesting- meeting new people all over the place, being able to pursue her passion. It was practically a dream come true.
Everything had been quiet, no sound was heard but the female's light breathing. Until some sort of rustling rang in her ears. Her head turned around instantly, searching the seemingly empty rooftop for the source of the sound. Apparently, she was not alone.
"H-Hello? Is anyone out there?"
She bit her lower lip, unable to find whatever was nearby. She was sure she wasn't dreaming, and the sound had been clear enough for her to register that she wasn't imagining things. Her hands curled into fists, in a feeble attempt to prepare herself for whatever was coming for her.

Kenji was excited to learn that students were allowed on the rooftop at Aozora. It was strictly off-limits at the school he came from. For a long time, Kenji had wished to see the city from above - the lights, the people, everything.
With a soft sigh, Kenji continued to climb the many steps to the rooftop. His legs were tired, he was tired, and he had no idea why he had picked that night of all nights to visit the city's aerial view. He pushed the door open easily, standing the the doorway for a moment. The wind was colder that he'd imagined, and he pulled his jacket tighter around him.
"H-Hello? Is anyone out there?"
Kenji poked his head around the corner, his gaze catching a girl huddled in her own jacket on the other side of the rooftop. Lifting a hand to wave, Kenji called, "Just me, sorry!" And quickly made his way over to where the girl was standing.
When he was only a few feet away, he nodded and introduced himself. "I'm Kenji Takuto," he told the unfamiliar face. "Why are you up here all alone?"

"Just me, sorry!"
She let out a breath of relief. No one dangerous, she reassured herself. Maybe she could get acquainted with the new arrival, too. This she was a bit hopeful for.
Amaya was still, watching as he made his way towards her, his features becoming more and more clear as he got closer. The shine of the moon reflected off of his face when he stopped, giving the female the ability to see who she was talking to.
"I'm Kenji Takuto," he told Amaya. "Kenji." She nodded with affirmation. "My name's Amaya Nakamura. It's nice to meet you."
"Why are you up here all alone?"
The question muddled her a bit. Why had she gone up here in the first place, along with the fact that she was alone? "Well, I-I was just here to let my mind wander, I guess." Wow Amaya, lame answer, she thought to herself. "To sort of think about things. And I thought this was the perfect place, since no one's usually out here at this time."
The wind slightly lifted her hair, tossing it to the side. She pulled her jacket close to her once again, her teeth on the edge of chattering. It was just that cold.

Amaya, the male thought, her name's very pretty.
Kenji listened as Amaya explained why she had come to the roof so late at night, and he understood completely. In fact, her reasoning was his, as well. Since it was getting late, Kenji honestly believed he would be the only one visiting the roof that night.
"I know exactly what you mean," Kenji told her, his gaze shifting slowly to the city below them. "I think that's why made my way up here, as well."
From the corner of his eye, Kenji saw the wind toss Amaya's hair around a bit before settling back on her shoulders. She shivered again, and Kenji immediately scolded himself for being ungentlemanly.
Slipping his arms from the sleeves of his jacket - and tightening his scarf around his neck - Kenji looked down at the girl, chewing on his lip. He had never done something like this before - offered a girl his jacket - and he didn't know how to word the offer.
Kenji wasn't very experienced with the opposite sex - or the same sex, for that matter - and was rarely given opportunities to do nice things like this for people. He took advantage of every one he came across because it made him feel better, as well. This was one of those times - giving Amaya his jacket would make him feel good because she wouldn't be cold.
He looked back to the girl. "Would you like to borrow my jacket?"

Her eyes followed Kenji's gaze, identifying what he was looking at. He had reason to be looking at the view; it was just too beautiful and exuberant to ignore.
"I know exactly what you mean. I think that's why I made my way up here as well."
She sort of figured her reasoning wasn't so lame, after all. If he had his similar intentions of coming up here, then it made sense. She continued to stare down at the cityscape below, admiring it. She hadn't visited it yet, maybe she would take a trip downtown tomorrow, after school....
In the middle of her musings, she heard the male speak again, in a gentle voice. "Would you like to borrow my jacket?"
It was a sudden offer, and quite unexpected. He seemed awfully cold too, due to the wind picking up more than usual that night. Especially since he had that scarf on, too... If she refused, she would feel guilty that he had tried to be nice to her. If she accepted, it would be the same situation, for a different reason. She'd feel guilty, not for saying no, but because he wouldn't have anything but the scarf to protect himself from the cold. Weighing her options, she took a few moments before answering quietly, "Th-Thank you, I'd appreciate it."
Meeting his eyes, she had all the gratitude in the world in her own optics. Guilt, as expected, washed over her. But she planned to repay him later. Somehow, someway, but it was decided. She wouldn't be able to live with herself if she didn't.

Kenji handed over his jacket quickly, a smile tugging on his lips. He was glad Amaya had accepted the offer. Truth be told, Kenji probably would get cold eventually, but that wasn't really a good enough excuse for him to leave her freezing.
"You're welcome," he told her, his eyes traveling to the lights again. "It's really pretty from up here, don't you think?"
With a heavy sigh, Kenji closed his eyes for a moment, waiting for the girl's response. He was never very good at small talk, either, which was yet another thing to throw into the pile of "Activities Kenji Is Bad At."
He had never really understood small talk, and preferred to jump right into a conversation if he were going to speak to someone. And, if that someone were a girl, it was infinitely more difficult. Sure, girls had his old school had approached him, but only because they thought he was the "dangerous" type. Once they learned the truth, they scampered away.
Opening his eyes again, Kenji looked to Amaya. "What are you majoring in?" he asked, wondering if that was the right direction to go in.

She took the jacket, feeling the soft material under her fingertips, before slipping it around her shoulders, like a cape. She offered a small but grateful smile, mentally thanking him as well.
"You're welcome. It's really pretty from up here, don't you think?"
A single nod came from Amaya, her faraway thoughts separating her from the world around her. It was really easy for her to get lost in her thoughts, and just be at peace with herself. The setting helped very much in achieving this. "It is. It's amazing how night time changes the view so much, especially from this location, where you can see practically everything..." Her thoughts flowed out of her mouth, showing how relaxed she was at this point. It was nice to share a moment like this with someone, even if she had just met him.
"What are you majoring in?" Her eyes flashed back to Kenji's face, bringing her back to reality. "I, ah, I'm majoring in dancing, actually. N-Nothing big..." Her gaze fell to the ground, looking at her shoes- a pair of ballet flats, a plain black color. They shone in the moonlight.
"What about you?"

Kenji nodded, silently agreeing with what the girl had said. He was glad she hadn't run screaming from him - that would have just put the icing on the cake for the day. Amaya was a really nice girl, or, she seemed nice.
She told him that she was majoring in dance, and Kenji smiled a bit more. He brought his hands up and clasped them behind his neck, raising his shirt just enough for the wind to tickle his stomach. Quickly, as if he'd been punched in the gut, Kenji dropped his arms back to his side.
Laughing lightly at his lack of common sense, he said, "Dance majors seem few and far between here," he cocked his head to the side. "You're the first I've met."
"What about you?"
"Ah," Kenji began, his gaze shifting from the city lights, to Amaya to the stars and back again. "Singing major, but I play the guitar, as well." He tugged at his scarf. "There are a lot of singers here, though, not so many guitarists."
(OOC: This response is bad! Sorry!)

"Dance majors seem few and far between here."
She couldn't agree more. Not one person she's met so far has been majoring in dancing-- at least, to her knowledge. "I agree... I haven't come across any others that are pursuing the same major I am." That same thought made her start thinking. Maybe, she should go meet more people... that would help widen her horizons, since she hasn't interacted with too many yet. A few people here and there so far, but no one else. No wonder she hadn't met any other dancing majors.
"You're the first I've met," Kenji added. For some peculiar reason, a warm feeling flared up in the pit of her stomach. She couldn't quite identify it... "Really? I-It kinda makes sense, though... Dancing doesn't seem to be very popular."
She thought about it some more, when he answered her inquiry. "Singing major, but I play the guitar, as well. There are a lot of singers here, though, not so many guitarists." She nodded. Because she had only met a few people, her choices were limited in the variety of people she's met. And so far, to the extent of her knowledge, none of the singers play guitar, besides Kenji. "In that case, I'd like to hear you sing and play guitar sometime."
She gave him a genuine smile, now excited to hear the male play in the near future.

Kenji waved away the girl's statement, wondering if it really mattered to her that dancing wasn't popular. Kenji was glad he hadn't met many guitarists - that meant that he'd have a better chance of standing out in the crowd of singing majors. But it was understandable... the less amount of people sharing your major, the more difficult was to find people that shared your interests instead.
"In that case, I'd like to hear you sing and play guitar sometime." Amaya said, smiling up at him.
The dark-haired boy's eyes lit up. He nodded enthusiastically. "I love giving concerts," Kenji told her. "Private or not." He winked playfully, laughing immediately afterwards. "I'm sorry, I had to."
Normally, Kenji wouldn't be acting so happy-go-lucky around someone that was technically a stranger to him. But he felt so comfortable on the rooftop with Amaya that he didn't feel the need to act like a brick wall. It was a nice feeling.

It felt nice to actually be interacting with someone. Since arriving, she's hardly met anyone, even if she was the type of person to meet many new people in a foreign place. But the slight shyness got in the way, sometimes. Or rather, most of the time. Oh well, she'd just have to work on that. It couldn't be that hard.... right?
"I love giving concerts, private or not." Kenji winked in a joking manner, letting out a few laughs after. "I'm sorry, I had to."
She didn't realize it, but a small hint of blush spread across her face, as she too joined in the light laughter. Unfortunately, the moonlight emphasized her features, so that it was completely in view. "That's wonderful, Kenji. I'm looking forward to it, then.~"
Her hands clasped behind her back, Amaya leaned slightly forward, proof to her excitement. She was completely at ease. And as a bonus, it seemed like she had made a new friend.
