Characters: Sora Takahashi and Ayame Natsuri Time: 4 pm Location: Normal fast food restaurant
A lot of things have happened this past month to Sora. He flirted with a girl, got the snot kicked out of him by a guy that he kinda wished he could be friends with, made out with that same guy, and then he made up with the girl he flirted with. After all that, Sora really wished the couple the best of luck and now he heard that they broke up. He knew that she wouldn't be okay after that and he was worried.
Sure he had feelings for Ayame, but Sora was almost positive because she was the first girl that turned him down. He always liked a challenge, but that challenge was no longer there... She was up for the picking and he found himself refusing the offer. He really hated himself. He was shallow, and selfish.
His blue eyes scanned the restaurant, if you could even call it that, and smiled at the scattered families eating lunch together. He remembered sitting in a similar setting only years ago before his mother walked out on them, back when they were... happy. Sora span his straw around lazily, waiting for his blonde friend to arrive.

Biting at the sides of her mouth, she pushed through the door of the restaurant, feeling more nervous and sick than hungry. The knotted feeling in her stomach just increased when she saw Sora, but she swallowed hard and joined him, forcing her berry-stained lips into a bitter smile.
"Hey," she greeted in a small voice, waving. "So..." she began awkwardly, staring at the table between them, and linking her hands behind her back. Since that chance meeting with Ren at the zoo, seeing anyone connected to him was like a thorn in her side.
Ignoring the feeling of dizziness and nausea, she straightened her posture and took a deep breath. Just a few days ago, she was proposing friendship with Sora, and now was no time to go back on that, and so she put a bit more sincerity into her grin. "So, what's been going on with you?" she asked, unwrapping a straw and blowing the wrapper at him.

"Hey." A small voice greeted him. Sora turned, actually surprised to see that the source of the voice was Ayame. She had never seemed so weak, when he thought of Ayame he thought of that smiling girl with the sword. The one that could kick his ass if she wanted to, but was gentle and kind enough not to...even though he made out with her boyfriend. "So..." she started talking, hopping into the seat across from him.
He blew the wrapper right back at her, and shoved a burger on her side of the table. He shot her a look that said, 'eat-it' and then he leaned his face onto his hands, "No, you know why we're here." Sora smiled sadly, "What happened, Ayame? I thought that you and him were okay."

The casual smirk that was usually plastered across his lips was replaced with a somber frown, and the mischief in his eyes was just a dim shine. Sora knew what was going on, obviously. But still, he kept quiet, for both of them. When he blew the wrapper back, it hit her cheek softly, and she smiled slightly, rubbing her face. As she figured he would, he'd read her body language perfectly, and acted in return. He pushed a burger towards her, but she shook her head. That gagging feeling was still in her throat, and even if she was hungry, she wouldn't have been able to keep it down.
"No, you know why we're here." He finally spoke. "What happened, Ayame? I thought that you and him were okay."
Taking a breath, and biting her bottom lip, she placed her elbow on the table and rested her forehead against her palm. "I thought so too." she said softly, suppressing the urge to walk out. Sometimes, you're not hurt, you're just confused, and being around other people confuses you enough to make you think you're in pain. That was Ayame for those few seconds before she lifted her head and smiled. "It's not like he's dead or anything. We're still friends, we just don't hold hands or make out or sleep together anymore." she mumbled, taking a sip of her drink. "It's not the end of the world." she said to herself. This conversation was turning into a confession.
Taking a deep breath and straightening her back, she winked at Sora. "I guess I just had to say that." she added, twisting the straw around. "So... thanks for listening." Her face reddened a little, considering the only people she ever really spilled any real emotion to were Ren and Yousuke.

He couldn't let her turn away the food, but... fighting her at this moment in time didn't seem right. Saying anything to upset her right now didn't seem right. Ayame had never seemed so fragile, it wasn't a good look for her. He missed strong, smiling Ayame. The one who had forgiven him in the gym, and the one who wanted to be his friend.
A flash of that old Ayame came back as she talked such strong words. The kind of words that she needed to hear more than he needed to. Sora smiled crookedly, and locked eyes with her. "Anytime."
But that didn't settle him. Those words were nice, but Sora didn't buy that it wasn't the end of her world. "Ayame," He said gently, taking a hold of her hands. The gesture was meant to be comforting, and Sora fully intended on it only being taken as that. He was in no way in a flirty mood. "Are you sure you're okay? You look... sick." He didn't mean to sound blunt, but... it was the only way to put something like this.

"Ayame," he said gently, taking a hold of her hands. Unlike the way he placed his hands the first time they were together, this was calming in some way. It was assurance that someone was there, and she didn't realize until now how much she needed that. "Are you sure you're okay? You look... sick." So he had noticed.
Her smile shaking a bit, she laughed nervously and pulled her hands away awkwardly, trying not to appear abrasive. "I'm alright, I just don't really feel myself today." she replied, resting her elbows on the table, and smoothing her bangs. "But still, thank you for coming here and listening and just..." she paused, putting her hands back down, and touching his wrist. "for being with me." she finished, smiling at him.
Maybe they'd had a rocky start, but from what she could see, she had a strong feeling that she and Sora had potential. As friends, of course; seeing as they just sort of gravitated towards each other. As content as she finally was, the sick feeling in her stomach didn't subside. It just sat at the same level, like a car stuck in neutral.

"I'm alright, I just don't really feel myself today." She replied with a shaking voice.
A lump of guilt had settled in the blonde's stomach. All of this was his fault. If he hadn't flirted with Ayame in the first place, none of this would be happening. Ren and her would be happy, and she wouldn't be sitting in front of him looking like she could pass out at any moment. He frowned, biting the inner of his lip.
"But still, thank you for coming here and listening and just...for being with me." Her small fingers grazed against his wrist, sending a small fluttering feeling through his body.
Sora wasn't the frowny type, he smiled right back at her, "That's what friends are for right?" He tilted his head to the side, showing her that it was alright. That he would be there for her, as a friend, and she could always come to him for anything. "Now eat." He grinned pushing the food at her once again, "You look like you haven't done that in forever."
