Character(s): Mayumi Yoshida & anyone that would like to join! Time: 11:30 A.M Location: Music Room
Mayumi had grown wary of sitting in her dorm alone. Her fingers were itching, and she hadn't really explored the campus yet. She had written a quick message to her absentee roommate on the whiteboard before slinking out into the hallway.
Only a few minutes later, she found herself in the Music Room. She walked slowly into the room, looking around her, eyes dancing from the brass instruments, to a drum set, a cello leaning against a wall, but, when her eyes landed on the grand piano situated on a low stage in the corner of the room, Mayumi stopped dead in her tracks.
"I... I shouldn't have come in here," she said to herself, staring straight at the piano.
If anyone had been in the room, they would have more than likely thought that she was hoping to have a conversation with the instrument. She let a small smile slip on to her lips at the idea. It wasn't completely absurd.
Taking a few more steps into the large room, Mayumi peeked around to validate that she was, in fact, completely alone before she hurriedly moved toward the piano. It was a lot larger than the one she had at her home, and the bench was wider.
It would take some getting used to, but she could learn to accept the subtle differences. After a few moments of lite tuning, Mayumi did exactly that. She had the tune of an American musical artist's song stuck in her head and began to hum to herself, tapping the necessary keys for the song's melody. Before she could stop herself, Mayumi was signing the song, too.
"Those boon times went bust, my feet of clay, they dried to dust. The red isn't the red we painted. Its just rust..."

Kakeru was tugging lightly at the bow tie that was encasing his neck as he walked through the hallways of the school. He really shouldn't have listened to his sister when she begged him to go along with the optional bow tie, saying that he would look more 'approachable and cute' instead of his usual look of... what ever he looked like.
He heaved out a sigh and ran a hand through his hair like he usually did, disheveling it. Just as he turned a corner, however, Kakeru heard the sound of a piano and an incredible voice singing. Stopping abruptly, he immediately spotted a door propped open with a small sign over it, declaring it was the music room. It wasn't like Kakeru to be interested in something like this, but he was extremely curious about the the voice singing in English.
Slowly creeping to the door as silently as possible and also trying not to trip on thin air, Kakeru poked his head in just slightly to see a girl with black hair playing the piano. A smile formed on the shy boy's lips, as he pulled his head out and was about to turn around when he felt his foot snag the door way. And before he could grab onto something, the clumsy boy felt himself fall down and hit the ground hard.

Mayumi was only half-way through the song when something stopped her. A loud crash from behind her startled her, causing her to jump and clutch at her heart, thinking it might just beat out of her chest. She'd never been so scared before - she'd never been snuck up on...
She narrowed her eyes a bit, peaking around the opening of the door to see a dark-haired boy sprawled out on the floor just outside of the music room. Mayumi had never seen the boy before, therefore she obviously didn't know him, nor did she know why he would be peeking in on her practice, for lack of a better term.
Lifting herself from the bench, she walked to the end of small stage, bringing the boy's entire body into view. He didn't look as old as she had imagined - rather young, actually, and very timid. Mayumi couldn't bring herself to scream at him for scaring her like she had planned when she stood.
"Oi!" she called to him, "You've already made yourself known, why not come in and say 'hello'?"

"Oi!" a voice called out to him, "You've already made yourself known, why not come in and say 'hello'?"
Kakeru felt his heart beat speed up dramatically and he began to squirm because he felt embarrassed at the fact the pianist had caught him. Opening his closed eyes, Kakeru saw the girl who had been playing the piano looming over him, and he couldn't help but notice how the teenager looked older and much more confident than him. Feeling his face heat up, he quickly scrambled to his feet in the most ungraceful manner possible.
"S-S-Sorry," he stuttered softly, making the apology barely audible once he was on his feet. Kakeru let his eyes meet the girl's gaze, before quickly diverting his attention to the floor. "I was j-just curious as to w-who w-was singing..." he trailed off quietly. He didn't even glance up, afraid to meet the girls gaze once again, and was content with looking at the floor.
"I-I apologize i-if I interrupted y-your practice," Kakeru whispered softly. He raised a hand to scratch the back of his neck nervously, as he still gazed at the floor.

Shit, Mayumi thought, taking a step back from boy as he pulled himself up from the ground. She hadn't meant to be mean to him. Though, honestly, even when she had no desire to sound so harsh, her words twisted themselves in the worst possible ways. She sighed, watching as the boy righted himself.
He apologized profusely while his cheeks flushed a deep red. Mayumi's cheeks turned a bit pink as well - the boy was sweet, which made Mayumi feel infintely worse for snapping at him. She was already in a bad mood this morning, and all she had really wanted was to sit at the piano and escape for a few moments.
"I was j-just curious as to w-who w-was singing..." the boy spoke quietly, looking down at his feet.
He couldn't have been more than a first year - mainly because he opted in to wearing the bow tie. Mayumi hadn't seen many boys above their second year wearing the damned thing. And he was so timid - exactly they way Mayumi used to be before she learned to play the piano. She smiled softly at the boy, folding her lips quickly afterwards to obscure the small show of emotion.
He spoke up again, still gazing at the floor. "I-I apologize i-if I interrupted y-your practice."
Mayumi "tch"-ed at him. "You could have just come inside instead of lurking and scaring the shit out of me," she told him. "All the same, I'm Mayumi Yoshida, second year," she extended her right hand to the boy, hoping she hadn't completely scared him out of introducing himself.

"You could have just come inside instead of lurking and scaring the shit out of me" Kakeru heard the girl pause slightly, before she continued to speak in a loud, confident voice. "All the same, I'm Mayumi Yoshida, second year," and then there was a hand blocking his once clear view of the floor. Shock filtered across Kakeru's face, as he raised his gaze from the floor and onto the teenage girl, Mayumi, in front of him.
Extending his right hand out to Mayumi's hand, Kakeru blushed heavily. He turned his gaze to the side as he spoke softly, "Kakeru Shizuma, first year"
Kakeru let his mind wonder as their hands brushed and they shook hands. Mayumi, it was weird now that he knew the pianist name, must be here to major in singing. It was obvious because no one with that well of a voice would let it waste, and she obviously knew how to play the piano too. Then, the fact that she was a second year came to his mind. He had suspected Mayumi to be older than him, though he was surprised she was only a year older. He honestly had thought that the girl was a third year when his eyes first settled on her.
After Mayumi let go of his hand, Kakeru raised it to his hair and ran it through. He let his eyes once again wander back to the girl in front of him. Biting his lip, he looked down back at the floor and spoke softly,"I-I guess I should be going then. I don't w-want to t-take up anymore of y-your practice time"

Mayumi was honestly surprised when the boy - Kakeru Shizuma - didn't back quickly out of the room, but stayed to shake her hand. She let out a small, relieved sigh when he placed his hand in hers and told her his name, but, when she saw his blush, her eyes widened a bit.
She'd never once seen a boy blush like that. It was charming, and, at the same time, a bit terrifying. Was he still embarassed, or was it because of their handshake? Mayumi knew she was letting her thoughts run away from her again.
This place is a school, Mayumi scolded herself, you're here to better yourself, not to worry about boys or other petty things. She nearly groaned out loud, bringing her mind back to wonder just how complicated the next two years were going to be.
Kakeru's voice broke her thoughts, "I-I guess I should be going then. I don't w-want to t-take up anymore of y-your practice time."
Mayumi dropped her eyes from the top of his head to the Aozora Academy emblem on his blazer. "You can stay if you'd like," she said, mentally slapping herself while staring at the design instead of trying to find the boy's gaze. "Do you know how to play the piano?"

Just as Kakeru was about to turn around and take his leave to give Mayumi her privacy, the girl's voice stopped him. "You can stay if you'd like," he heard Mayumi say. Lifting his gaze from the floor, he looked up at the older teenager in shock as he tried to keep himself from flushing bright red. He was confused and nervous that Mayumi had offered for him to stay, but he also noticed that girl wasn't meeting his gaze which he found odd. Kakeru almost sighed out loud, because he definitely wasn't use to interacting so much with someone he just met.
"Do you know how to play the piano?" Mayumi asked. The question caught Kakeru off guard, and he nervously ran a hand through his hair.
Reverting his eyes right back to the ground, Kakeru wasn't sure if he should say that he could play the piano. It wasn't that he didn't trust Mayumi, it was more that he was too shy and timid to say that he could play. Kakeru really had never talked this much with someone he had just met. Usually it was his meek hi, and he turned and bolted out of the room because he was to shy to start an interesting conversation, and he profusely didn't like meeting new people. Though, he had a feeling that the reason why he hadn't fled much earlier from this scene was because he felt a connection with the older girl. He couldn't place a finger on what the connection was, but he knew he felt it.
Honestly, Kakeru could see that the attractive girl in front of him was a bit on the unfriendly side, but he could also tell that she was trying her hardest not to be too cruel to him. That meant either she pitied him or she truly wanted to be his friend. Kakeru gulped nervously as he decided to tell her the truth.
"I-I do know h-how to play the piano," the boy meekly whispered. He felt himself get flustered as a blush consumed his face."Alt-Although," he mumbled, "I-I doubt I soun-sound as good as you"

Three, Mayumi counted silently, three times that he's run his hand through his hair. She wondered, for a moment, if Kakeru could really be that nervous. Was it just her making him nervous, or was that just the way he was?
Probably the latter, Mayumi reasoned. She hadn't met many students at Aozora that weren't timid in one way or another. That's how a lot of artists were these days. Mayumi didn't understand why, though.
She watched as Kakeru's eyes darted around the room for a safe place to rest his gaze, finally resting on the ground again. "I-I do know h-how to play the piano," he mumbled to the floor.
Another pianist! Mayumi had believed she was the only of her kind at Aozora. She was glad, however, to know that she wasn't alone in that aspect. The two of them would have something to talk about now.
Maybe - maybe - if Mayumi allowed herself, she and Kakeru could become good friends. Mayumi smiled a bit at the thought.
"Alt-Although," he mumbled again, "I-I doubt I soun-sound as good as you."
Mayumi needed to be nice, she wanted a friend at Aozora more than anything. And the boy in front of her seemed like - if Mayumi could get her to warm up to him - he would be a good match for her.
"That can't be true," Mayumi told him, hoping the smile she was giving him was actually a smile and not a smirk or a scowl. "You've heard me play, why not return the favor?"

"That can't be true," Mayumi's voice seemed to reason. Kakeru looked up from the floor nervously, to see Mayumi's smiling face. In all honestly, Kakeru couldn't help but think about how much the smile suited her. It looked like it should permanently be there, because not only did it soften up her face but it also seemed to be genuine.
That smile made Kakeru believe that Mayumi and him could truly friends.
A genuine smile was about to take over Kakeru's expressions but it immediately stopped when Mayumi continued to speak. "You've heard me play, why not return the favor?"
Kakeru felt the blood rush to his face as he turned his head to side and nervously bit his lip. Should he play in front of her? It only seemed fair. He had crept up on her when she was playing because he was curious about her enticing voice. And now, Mayumi was asking him to show her how well he was at playing the piano.
And it's not like I have to sing too, all I have to do is play a song for her. With that thought, Kakeru immediately had his mind decided. "I-I'll play... "

Mayumi fought hard to keep from outright grinning at the boy before her. She was treating someone kindly, someone that she wanted to be friends with and that she had just met. That hadn't happened in ages.
Though she had spoken civilly with Ayame Natsuri earlier in the day and that hadn't gone horribly wrong. Mayumi considered that it may just be Aozora itself that was causing her sudden change in character, but, if it wasn't and she was consciously capable of being nice to a person, she was glad.
Kakeru blushed again, and turned his head to the side, biting his lip. He looked distressed, and Mayumi immediately felt a little... sad? Upset? That she had more than likely caused his change of expression.
Just as she was about to open her mouth to tell Kakeru that he really didn't have to if he didn't want to, he opened his mouth instead.
"I-I'll play... " he said quietly.
Mayumi was a little bit shocked, but intrigued at the same time. She'd only once before heard someone younger than her play, and that was at the auditions (the person had been rejected, so it didn't really matter anyway).
"Great," she responded, gesturing slightly toward the piano in the corner. "I've never heard another student here play - this will be a first."

His emerald eyes watched as Mayumi's facial expression quickly turned from shocked, to intrigued, and then blank once again. If Kakeru hadn't been watching her intently, he wouldn't have noticed the change in her expression. It was times like these, that Kakeru was glad he was watching someone instead of staring intently at the ground.
The reason why he was watching her, was because Kakeru was waiting for her reply to his yes on playing the piano for her. Although, he was secretly hoping she would have to run off somewhere. Kakeru wasn't ashamed to admit that he was incredibly nervous to play the piano for her, but he was really hoping he didn't have too. He decided he had faced enough embarrassment for one day, and was regretting saying yes to Mayumi's request.
"Great," Mayumi voiced. Kakeru watched as she gestured slightly to the piano, and once again he felt his face flush from slight nervousness and from the thought of playing the piano for someone he just met. He would admit he was extremely curious as to why she was so interested in hearing him play. His question was answered however, when Mayumi spoke again.
"I've never heard another student here play - this will be a first." Mayumi stated. Kakeru nervously ran a hand through his hair as he felt his face once again heat up.Why was it he became so easily flustered around anyone?
"I-I'm surprised y-you've never heard a-another student p-play" Kakeru meekly whispered. Wanting to avoid anymore embarrassment, he quickly strode over to the piano without a reply and sat down on the bench. He contemplated for a few seconds on what he should play, but then instantly decided on "If I had you" by Adam Lambert. His reasoning behind choosing this song, was that his sister had begged him to learn it a few days before he left for Aozora Academy. Taking in a deep breathe, Kakeru let has hands run over the keys and then he started to play the opening notes of the song.

"I-I'm surprised y-you've never heard a-another student p-play," he responded softly, not meeting her eyes as he strode past her and took a seat at the piano. He sat still for a moment before he lifted his hands and began to play.
Mayumi didn't recognize the song, but it was beautiful nonetheless. She watched his fingers slide quickly and skillfully across the ivory keys. Without knowing it, she took a few steps closer to the instrument and the boy playing.
"...doubt I soun-sound as good as you..."
The dark-haired girl smiled softly again. Concerning his obvious musical talents, Kakeru had nothing to put himself down about. Mayumi had never encountered someone so skilled. It was no wonder he'd gotten in to Aozora.
She knew he'd end up being her competition one way or another. That was fine with her. If she had no knowledge of how a person played or sang, but the excelled above her anyway, she would be angry. Knowing that Kakeru had a great deal of talent, if... when, she corrected herself, he excelled, she believed she wouldn't be able to bring herself to be angry with him.
None of that was important now, though.
Kakeru's song slowly rolled to a close, but Mayumi remained a bit awestruck. When he hit the last note, letting it resonate around large room, she smiled a genuine smile.
"That was..." she racked her brain for the proper adjective, only finding those that she didn't think described it accurately. "That was amazing, Kakeru."

Kakeru had been so deeply into the song, he hadn't even realized that he hit the last note until his fingers stopped on their own. That had always been the way he played his instruments. It's not like he meant to play that way, but he did.
For a moment, everything was silent and Kakeru forget completely that he was playing for Mayumi- the brilliant musician he had stalked up on out of pure curiosity. What reminded him that the older teenager was there, though, was when she decided to speak.
"That was..." he heard Mayumi pause slightly, most likely trying to find a way to word it correctly. "That was amazing, Kakeru." The way she said it, made him believe that she truly meant it. Of course, the heavy blush found it's way onto his face once again and Kakeru shook his head and turned to Mayumi.
"I-I wasn't a-as good a-as you w-were though," he mumbled softly as he ran a hand through his hair. He truthfully believed that the girl in front of him was an astounding musician, and that he would never be up to the caliber that she was at now. In the future though, he desired to be as good as her. Which is why he knew he had to practice everyday when he had the chance. That way, he could be as good as the girl standing in front of him. "B-But I-I hope one day, I a-am as good as y-you"

He was so humble, shaking his head at her compliment. "I-I wasn't a-as good a-as you w-were though," he told her, his cheeks flaming again.
Mayumi herself blushed a bit. She was complimented often, but Kakeru's seemed much more genuine than the rest. He didn't need to use big words and heavy flattery to get his point across, it seemed to Mayumi that he was merely stating a fact. Though she didn't believe she was as good as Kakeru said she was.
"B-But I-I hope one day, I a-am as good as y-you."
She took a few steps forward again, sitting down on the low stage that she piano had been placed on. Mayumi placed her hands palms-down on the surface, bringing her shoulders to her ears in a half-shrug. "If you don't believe you're already there, then it'll only take a little practice." Mayumi turned her head to look at the boy behind her. "You're really good as you are."
Mayumi was growing a little queasy with how nice she was being to a boy she hardly knew, but she couldn't stop herself. He was a great musician, and, aside from nearly causing her heart to stop, he hadn't done anything to awaken any resentment in Mayumi. She figured it may have been sorcery or something similar, but Kakeru brought out a sweeter side of her.
What was worse, she had only known him for about fifteen minutes. She couldn't imagine how she would act if the two spent more time together. But, what was even worse, she liked the idea.
