"We have tons of singers here in Aozora. I'm starting to think they let people in too easily, heh." Ren replied.
Mayumi smiled a bit more, because she secretly believed the same thing - some of the singers were amazing, but some were a bit... lacking, which didn't matter much to Mayumi because it was easy for her to excel above them.
"Yeah, I'm an actor." he added, "I don't know if it's anything to be proud of, though. Acting isn't something that I thoroughly enjoy." Ren shrugged, still looking at the ground. "I don't even know why the fuck I'm telling you this."
Ren was fidgeting, but Mayumi didn't know whether it was from being uncomfortable speaking his mind, or from the cold, but his next statement almost cleared it up for her.
"You're easy to talk to." He turned his gaze to Mayumi, "Maybe because you don't talk that much yourself. But still."
It was her turn to shrug now. "I figured you needed someone to listen rather than to tell you what to do," she said quickly, one corner of her mouth lifting in a half-smile. "I'm starting to believe I was right." She chuckled a bit. "What would you rather be doing instead of acting?"

As Ren watched Mayumi smile, he did as well. It was nice connecting with someone. To know that at least someone out there has the same opinions as you do, it was relieving. Ren nodded, "Yeah. It's like you can read my mind. Everybody here thinks they can tell me what to do. That's why I'm really..." Ren put his hands on his lap, "Really rude sometimes." He sighed deeply, "To be honest, sometimes it's uncomfortable for me to be rude - but sometimes it's the only way to get people to actually listen to me." He started to laugh, feeling pathetic of his own words. "I know, it's a bad way to get people to actually... listen. But, it's the only way for me, really. And being mean is fun sometimes - seeing people squirm." He smirked as he looked at her, "Seeing people fear me as I walk by them." Ren almost sounded like an evil villan here, but it was true.
His eyes widened - "What I would be doing instead of acting?" He looked up in thought, "Probably travelling the world or becoming a professional piano player I guess." He laughed, "Playing the piano is the only thing I'm good at next to acting. So I guess that's a must. Oh!" Ren gasped as he turned to her immediately,
"You play piano too, right? We should play together sometime or something. That'd be cool."
Ren's guard was completely down now - acting like the 'old' self that Yousuke and Ayame kept nagging to him about. He felt free, not having to keep up this 'mean guy' charade. It felt really nice.

"What I would be doing instead of acting?" He looked up at the clouds like they were the ones giving him answers. "Probably travelling the world or becoming a professional piano player I guess. Playing the piano is the only thing I'm good at next to acting. So I guess that's a must. Oh!" Ren gasped loudly, turning to the dark-haired girl on the swing next to him. "You play piano too, right? We should play together sometime or something. That'd be cool."
Mayumi smiled, nodding, "Yeah, I play." she told him, watching the light dance in his eyes. He really was attractive, but Mayumi wanted to remain on good terms with Ayame more than she wanted Ren, and the two obviously had more than friendship in their history.
"I've played since I could read, actually, though not very well." Mayumi laughed, kicking her feet up and wiggling her toes in her shoes. That'd be cool. Ren's words came back to her quickly. "Whenever you're free, I spend a lot of time in the music room anyway."
She moved her gaze away from the boy, looking across the park again. "If playing piano is the only other thing you're 'good at,' then why not do that? And, if you want to travel, why are you here?"

"Because I can't major in piano here, remember?" He laughed, "It's only dancing, acting or singing. And I hate singing - so, I don't want to do it." Ren widened his eyes at this girl's curiosity - "Why so many questions?" He smirked, "You're a persistant one."
It seemed like those were the only kinds of people Ren was meeting - Persistant ones. People who always ask him questions nonstop, getting into his business. But, somehow - he seemed to care less and less.
"And I'm here because I can always travel the world later. I can't go to high school if I'm 50, right?" Ren joked as he laughed a bit, "Becoming a famous actor is something I need to achieve." He put it bluntly.

"Becoming a famous actor is something I need to achieve." Ren said, laughing lightly, though the statement wasn't a joke. He had said 'need to,' not 'want to' like the thousands of other desperate actors Mayumi had spoken to.
They said it was fun, that acting would pay well, or that they wanted to be famous. None of them had said 'need.'
For what seemed like a long time, Mayumi tried to figure out the possible riddle behind Ren's words. She gave up, finally deciding to ask.
"I know I'm probably prying, but... why 'need'?" she asked, still not looking at him. "Why not, 'want,' or 'desire' or something vaguely poetic?"

Ren sighed at the girl's question - his reason why he 'needed' to be an actor has been hidden ever since he came to Aozora. He's never even told either Ayame or Yousuke why he needed to be one - they just think Ren's in it for the fame and fortune. Ren glanced at the girl, wondering if she was really listening or not. And she was. The look of anticipation on her face made him almost spill out his life story.
Gotta stay in control, Ren. "To find certain people." He said bluntly, "I know, it's vague, but I'm not really comfortable talking about it." He turned to smile at her, "Maybe when I know you better, if you're lucky."

Nodding, Mayumi said, "That's understandable. If you would have spilled everything here and now, I would have been a little bit confused." She turned gaze to Ren once more, smiling kindly. Mayumi caught the boy's eyes for a moment before she stripped the smile from her lips. "There's a lot I don't give away about myself even when I do know people better."
But who did he have to find?
Mayumi kicked her feet again, actually moving this time, and, only a few second later, she was swinging - not too high, but swinging all the same.
She laughed a bit, remembering what it felt like to be a kid for a moment. When she swung past Ren on her way down, she tapped his arm and said told him to swing, too.
(OOC: Wow, this sucks. I'm sorry!)

"Eh?" Ren stared at her with a confusing expression - "...Why." That was pretty random, he thought. Ren shrugged and started swinging slowly - not as fast as Mayumi, but he was getting there. "You know..." Ren tried to think of another topic they could talk about. "You'd make a good friend." Ren muttered, "I know, what do I know, right?" He chuckled. But it was true, Mayumi had all the qualities Ren wanted for a friend.
She listened, didn't command - sure, she was persistant and nosy - but who wasn't?
Ren cleared his throat as he achieved new heights on the swing - getting higher and higher. "How about you? Er, do you like doing what you do here?"

Ren started swinging as well, and Mayumi smiled a little bit more. It was nice to see someone as tense as him loosen up for once.
He muttered something that Mayumi didn't quite catch, before calling, "How about you? Er, do you like doing what you do here?"
She looked at his back for a moment, then swung past him, shrugging. "I guess. It seems like my talent's been draining, though. I can't find the words to write anymore." Mayumi slowed herself down a bit, sighing. "It's hard to explain, but since I came to Aozora, it's felt like a chunk of me is missing."
Mayumi sounded crazy even to herself. She wondered if Ren understood, it would be easier for her to explain if he did, though, she wouldn't have to explain if he did.
"Everyone's really good here, and I know I can be better - well, I am better -, but I can't write anything of my own anymore." She told him. "I'll stop babbling now." Mayumi's cheeks turned a light pink color and she folded her lips together.

"A chunk?" he questioned as he swung past her. "What do you mean?" He tilted his head a bit, trying to think of the answer. What she said didn't really make sense - "...Do you miss somebody or something?"
"I'll stop blabbing now," Mayumi said as she blushed. Ren shook his head immediately - "No, no. Continue!" Ren said - he was actually genuinely interested. "You listened to me so now it's my turn."

Mayumi shrugged and slowed herself on the swing so that she didn't have to shout. "I miss my sister, but that's not really it." She sighed a bit, frustrated that she couldn't find the right words. "It's just... really lonely here. When there were people around the temple at home, I wrote about them, composed things based on what colors the old women wore, and the way their laughs sounded mixed with the rustling of the trees."
She sounded like a child, a stupid, sheltered child, but she could make the words stop. "Here everything is blue, blue, blue, and everyone is annoying." Mayumi nearly pouted. "Nothing's inspiring anymore."
Her eyes flicked quickly between the trees, the grey sky, the boy next to her, the ground. "This all sounds stupid, doesn't it?" Mayumi asked, her gaze settled back on the boy on the swing.

"Kinda," Ren said bluntly as he grinned. "But hey, it's how you feel right? No need to feel stupid about it." Ren stopped swinging all of sudden, so he could sit beside her. "But I can't really relate this time," Ren said as he pouted a bit, "If I ever compose a song on the piano, it's always about my... feelings?" He said unsure, scratching the back of his head. "Never about my surrondings. Haha, I'm a very troubled person, so that should explain itself." Ren admitted.
"I've only met a few people that write about their surrondings - that's truly amazing, you know." Ren looked at her and smiled genuinely, "You can always go out of town and write. You're not always stuck here in this shit hole, so.."

Mayumi sighed, running a hand through her hair. "Writing about feeling is difficult when you pretend not to have any," she stated, then, looking at Ren, continued. "I guess I just found it easier to write about what I saw than try to dig up feelings." Mayumi spat out the word like it was poisonous.
Growing up, she had never really learned how to properly express what she was feeling, which caused her to bottle everything up until it exploded out of her like a nuclear missile and left her in a crumpled heap on the floor.
Mayumi was very good at controlling her emotions, and, if she were to actually "feel something" it didn't take her long to be rid of it completely. Even happiness, she often crushed that, too.
Shrugging, Mayumi addressed the boy's next statement. "I guess I could go out of town. But the problem is I wouldn't have anywhere to go." She told him. "My sister lives in Shinjuku, and that's not exactly out of the city, and I can't just take off in the middle of the week to go visit my brother in America. Maybe the beach, or the zoo or something."

Ren nodded at her ideas, "That's true." He laughed a bit, "If you want I can go to the beach or the zoo with you. It'd be my pleasure." He turned to smile at his new friend, "Actually it'd be kind of fun. I hardly go to class anyway, so.." He kicked the sand, waiting for her reply.
"I've never been to either of the beach or zoo, so! You'd have to lead me." It was surprising Ren himself how nice and friendly he's become - but this is what he was like when he was younger. And knowing that he can still act like this made him feel proud.

Mayumi's mouth hung open a little bit, she hadn't expected Ren to offer to accompany her. She was glad that he had, though. "Sure," she told him, closing her mouth and giving him a half smile. "I'd love it if you came with me, but I've never been to either of the places, as well, so we'll both be stumbling blindly!"
It seemed that Ren's smile was infectious, because Mayumi was soon grinning as well. Not even fifteen minutes ago, he was being hostile and somewhat cynical, but, now, he was smiling and laughing like they were old friends.
"I'm glad," Mayumi said, "That we had this opportunity to actually get to know one another better. You're a really nice person, Ren."
