Location: Park
Being the little kid he always is on the inside, Ren was swinging on the swings - thinking about problems that wouldn't seem to leave his head. The cold weather made him want to hide inside the Academy all day - but he just couldn't seem to get enough of fresh air.
For once, Ren didn't feel like being alone. He wanted someone to talk to - but of course, being the stubborn brat he is, he'd never admit that - and just isolate himself like any other day.

Mayumi tugged at the fabric inside the pockets of her jacket, trying to keep the cold from getting her was becoming a much more daunting task than she had thought it would when she fled her dorm room earlier.
The mere presence of her roommate was smothering to her. Their personalities clashed so much that Mayumi honestly believed she'd never be able to get along with the other girl. She shrugged the thought away, hoping her mind would find something in a neutral zone on it's own. It didn't, and Mayumi wasn't surprised. She sighed, looking up when she heard giggling.
Somehow, her short walk had brought her to the park. She was about to turn around and leave when she saw a familiar face across the lot. The boy from the hallway when she met Ayame and Kiyama-sensei. She had never found out his name.
Mayumi had to keep herself from running toward the swing-set he was sitting at - it was hard to find familiar faces in the crowds at Aozora, when she found one, Mayumi sort of felt like she could breathe again.
She sat herself down on the swing next to the boy, trying to find the words to start a civilized conversation. Mayumi couldn't do it, so she settled on something... She didn't know how to classify it. She didn't even know if it made sense.
"What brings you to the realm of child's play?" Mayumi asked, kicking the dirt below her with the tips of her shoes, avoiding eye-contact.

Ren twitched as he saw a girl sit next to him on the swings. She was a familiar face, always seeing her around the halls - even next to Ayame at times. He glared at her, "Realm of child's play?" He raised his eyebrows - "What the hell was she talking about?" Ren thought to himself.
"...Nothing? I need some place to think, I guess. Who are you?" He asked rudely, he didn't care though. He just wanted to figure out what this girl wanted.

Mayumi felt the need to clarify. "You're at the park," she said, gesturing around them. "Have you ever encounter anyone other than a child sulking at the park?"
He didn't seem to have heard her. "...Nothing? I need some place to think, I guess. Who are you?"
She leaned her head against the chain of her own swing, side-eyeing the boy now. "I'm Mayumi," she told him, then narrowing her eyes, lifted her head and set his gaze on him once more. "And think about what? The fight you and Ayame had in the hallway the other day?"
Mayumi shouldn't have brought that up. She really, really shouldn't have.

Ren got up immediately - "How the fuck do you know about that?" He felt violated - like he was being stalked. "Who do you think you are?" With his eyebrows raised he glared at the girl. "What happens between Ayame and I isn't any of your fucking business, Mayumi."
"I'm not sulking by the way, little brat" He growled. This was the first time someone came up to him and brought up one of his personal problems like it was nothing. "The fucking nerve," he thought.

Mayumi's eyes widened quickly. She hadn't expected him to get so angry at her. He... He had seen her that day in the hallway, right? Mayumi thought he had, at least.
Hadn't Ayame said his name was Ren? Maybe. She didn't want to be wrong if that wasn't his name.
"I'm not sulking by the way, little brat."
She cleared her throat and tired anyway. "Ren, I have no idea what happened, all I know is that you stormed off as I was approaching." Mayumi held up her hands defensively, "That's all."
Mayumi had no other way of calming him down. She didn't know him, and it honestly felt like he had no desire to even know her, let alone be seen in public with her.

Ren saw the guilt in Mayumi's eyes - why was he getting so worked up over this?
"I don't recall saying my name was Ren, or telling you my name at that." he growled. "How do you know so much, anyway? What the fuck has Ayame been telling you?" He approached her - slowly, one step at a time.
"Don't know what happened, hm? And how am I supposed to believe you, little stalker?"
He started laughing, like the little freak Ren was. "I've only seen you a few times in the hallway - or with Ayame. I didn't know you knew that much about me. That's fucking scary," he said bluntly.
"So why are you here? To kidnap me, or something?" Ren crossed his arms, waiting for her response.

"I don't recall saying my name was Ren, or telling you my name at that." Ren snarled. "How do you know so much, anyway? What the fuck has Ayame been telling you?"
Mayumi sighed, rolling her eyes a bit at him. He was so angry, still, even after she had said that she knew nothing about their argument. She knew nothing about their relationship, either, and had no intention of learning unless he or Ayame decided to tell her - which Mayumi doubted they would.
Mayumi didn't care about the relationships of others, or, she acted that way at least.
She believed, somewhat, that she understood what Ren was going through - putting up walls and hiding how he truly felt, or ignoring it entirely.
"I've only seen you a few times in the hallway - or with Ayame. I didn't know you knew that much about me. That's fucking scary,"
Mayumi shrugged, "I like to observe." She listened to Ren's next words. She let out a genuine laugh. "Of course, Ren," she pointed across the park to a line of cars. "See that car over there?" she asked vaguely. "I'm going to kidnap you and stuff you in the trunk."
She laughed again, glad that she had run in to someone so entertaining.

"I can see that," Ren replied with a smug look on his face. "A puny brat like you can hardly carry my leg." He laughed, "I don't think you're here to kidnap me." She was pretty interesting - he thought. Most entertainment Ren's ever going to get tonight, so might as well extend it as much as possible, right?
"So I guess since you already know my name, I don't have to introduce myself, hmm?" Ren flicked the black haired girl's forehead, "You're a quite talented... observer. I'm not that open to strangers, and yet you already know my name."
He sat back on the swing - almost falling over, "You're interesting, Mayumi. I like you."

Mayumi made a face when Ren flicked her forehead - not quite a scowl, but she definitely wasn't smiling. She was glad he wasn't shouting anymore, though, she just didn't expect him to go from angry to friendly in five seconds. It was a good feeling - watching someone switch expressions like that in front of your eyes.
Ren moved to sit back down on the swing next to Mayumi, stumbling a bit. Mayumi chuckled at him. "You're interesting, Mayumi. I like you."
She looked down at the dirt again. "You won't for long, but..." she lifted her head to look at Ren again and shrugged instead of finishing her response. Mayumi never really learned how to speak vaguely about the things that bothered her - she was a "bottle it in" or "scream it to the world" kind of girl, never in the middle.
Her gaze snapped away from Ren quickly, landing on the grass about five feet away. She had no idea why she had just said that, and to Ren of all people. From what Mayumi knew of him, he wasn't the type to sit and listen to - or care about - other's problems... and she had nearly told him her biggest one.
Change the subject, you idiot! Mayumi's subconscious screamed at her.
"Um... So, why the park, of all places to get your mind off things?"

"I won't for long?" He chuckled, "I know how you feel." He immediately looked at her when she immediately stopped looking at him. "Eh? What's your problem?" Ren said, "Is there something on my face?" Ren was swinging back and forth on the swing slowly, like a little child. "Don't have to get all embarrassed, haha. I know, I know. I'm a big douche." He looked up to the sky, still laughing. "I've been told, and I don't care. I don't know what's up your ass about this whole 'not liking you for long' shit, but trust me, I've been there." He turned to look at her and smiled. "I'm not going to shout at you and murder you or something," Ren laughed even harder. "I bite, but probably not hard. Considering how annoying you are... eh."
Even though Mayumi attempted to change subjects, he stayed at the same one until he could finish what he wanted to say about the matter. "I like the park because of the swings." He quickly, yet bluntly added.

She ignored him for a moment, getting lost in her own thoughts. Ren understood what she meant... would that mean he would understand her stupid, drawn out explanation, as well? Mayumi had no idea, but she never would unless she tested the waters.
"I've been told, and I don't care. I don't know what's up your ass about this whole 'not liking you for long' shit, but trust me, I've been there." Ren's gaze moved to her and he smiled. "I'm not going to shout at you and murder you or something," He laughed loudly, causing Mayumi to purse her lips at him. "I bite, but probably not hard. Considering how annoying you are... eh."
Mayumi rolled her eyes, tch-ing at the boy on the swing next to her.
Ren quickly added, "I like the park because of the swings."
Turning to him once more, Mayumi nodded, agreeing. "I think that's why I ended up here. I love the swings - I have... forever - but the park near my house was destroyed ages ago." She sighed. "Is it awful that I don't miss home as much as I thought I would?"
Realizing who she was talking to, her eyes widened slightly. Mayumi hoped he wouldn't make fun of her, but Ren had been nice to her so far, so Mayumi took a deep breath and braced herself for his reply.

"Nah," Ren shrugged. "I don't miss my house that much either, I can relate to you there too." He laughed as he gripped the chains of the swings tighter, "being home brings bad memories. That's all I can say about that." He smiled. Ren found himself being nice to her because they both could relate to various things. They actually felt the same way about certain topics, and because of Ren's bratty attitude that was rare.
He slowly kicked the sand, watching it fly into the wind. "So how did you meet Ayame?" Ren randomly asked as he was staring at the ground. "I-i mean..."
Shit why did I ask that?
"What are you majoring in?" Ren quickly changed the topic, pretending the first part he said never happened.

Mayumi thought he would have bit her head off, but, instead, he merely shrugged and gripped the chains tighter.

She'd never met someone who she believed should always be smiling. Ren was that kind of person - he looked upset all the time, but his smile illuminated parts of him that Mayumi didn't know existed on a person. Ren was the kind of person that should never have to frown.
Mayumi had no idea if that would make sense out loud, so she kept quiet and waited.
Ren kicked at the ground, as well, looking distracted. "So how did you meet Ayame?" He asked, staring at the ground.
Mayumi's eyes widened again. She didn't think Ayame was something she should talk to him in-depth about. She and Ren had history, and it was none of Mayumi's business.
He seemed to realized this too, quickly changing the subject "What are you majoring in?"
Mayumi sighed lightly, glad that Ren had picked something extremely neutral for their conversation.
"Singing, and bits of piano." Mayumi turned to look at him. "You're an actor, right?"

Being glad that Mayumi didn't answer his first question - he sighed in relief. "Ah, a singer. Pretty common." He shook his head while grinning - "We have tons of singers here in Aozora. I'm starting to think they let people in too easily, heh."
Ren nodded, "Yeah, I'm an actor." He stared at the ground, "I don't know if it's anything to be proud of, though. Acting isn't something that I thoroughly enjoy." Ren shrugged - "I don't even know why the fuck I'm telling you this," Ren scratched the back of his head out of frustration.
"You're easy to talk to." He turned to look at the girl, "Maybe because you don't talk that much yourself. But still."
