Character(s): Ayame Natsuri, Ren Yukio, Yousuke Kiyama, anyone else who'd like to be introduced. Time: 8:00AM Location: Main hall
She stood awkwardly in the hall that ate her up like a faceless monster, her hands buried in the pockets of her navy blazer and her katana slung over her shoulder in its sheath. The walls were a soft blue color like cotton candy with too much dye, and the floor smelled like cleaning solution. No matter how much she looked around, she couldn't get a grip on where she was or why she was there.
"I already hate it here." she mumbled, looking down at her feet. "And classes haven't even started yet."
Ren and Yousuke were supposed to be here. When was the last time she'd seen them? How many years ago? It felt like forever. She and Ren were close to the same height back then, but now, at 151 centimeters, there was no way she'd even come up to his shoulders anymore. And Yousuke...she hardly even remembered him as more than just that big kid that gave piggyback rides. She smiled. One of those smiles that hurt because you can't exactly remember what you smiled for.
"So...where are they?" she asked herself.

Ren was walking around the school as if it were his first day there, still amazed by the size of the Academy.
"Second year already, eh.." he sighed. To be honest, he couldn't care less - he just wanted to graduate and get the hell out of here so he could move onto better things in his life. He scratched the back of his head and checked his cellphone for the time. "8 am? That early?" he groaned as he continued to force himself to walk down the hall to meet his old 'friends'.
He didn't remember much about either of them - he just knew that they considered themselves as 'friends'. Ren didn't like thinking about his past friends that much, because to him he considered them all backstabbers.
As he continued to walk down the wide hallway, he saw a small blonde girl looking around. He hesitated to talk to her at first, not knowing if he was sure it was her or not - but it couldn't hurt.
"....Ayame....?"

"Alright, get along, get moving!" Yousuke cheerily said to the students he passed by in the hallway. He didn't want them to linger around for too long, who knew what they could be up to? It was September, and the winds were getting chillier and the last drops of the summer season were evaporating away. Many students were trying to pull off their carefree pranks and practical jokes that they were used to doing during the summer vacation before allowing the stress of the school year to settle into their heads. Shaking his head, Yousuke continued on heading down the corridor.
"Ah! There they are!" Yousuke suddenly paused as he spotted the two teenagers from across the hallway. Jesus christ, they've both grown so much.
"AYAME, REN!" Yousuke suddenly shouted, his voice echoing between the walls of the large hallway. A huge, goofy grin appeared on the 23-year-old's face as he ran towards the two teenagers. He reached them almost immediately, bouncing on the back of his feet with excitement. "The last time I saw you two you were thiiiiiiis small!" he laughed happily, placing his hand a little bit above his waist. "Remember me, guys? It's me, Yousuke-nii!" he grinned, oblivious to the fact that the expressions the two teenagers wore were almost completely opposite from his own.

Startled by the sudden sounds of fellow students and teachers, she jumped. She was suddenly drowning in a sea of unfamiliar faces, and pressed herself against the wall, worried she'd be swept away. It was like everyone was taller than her, and everyone looked the same. How would she ever find Ren or Yousuke this way?
But as the crowd cleared up, she heard a deep voice behind her. She couldn't place it at first, but she remembered it from somewhere. Turning to match the face, she nearly flew from her skin. "R-Ren...?"
This was not the skinny little boy she remembered from so many summers ago. There was no way. But the longer she looked at him, the more he began to look like the Ren she knew before. He had the same eyes, and the same permanent smirk cut across his face like a gash.
"It's you..." she whispered, dropping her shoulders.
Just as she was about to walk towards him, another voice came from behind again. And it came with yet another shock. "Y-Yousuke-san..."
Everything was happening fast. All these memories were pouring from her subconscious so fast she felt like she'd drown if she didn't make them stop. Sure enough, just as she expected, these two friends were back in her life. Biting at her lip, she waved. What kind of year would this be?

Weirded out by the way Ayame looked at him, he was able to wave at his old childhood friend. "Well this is awkward..." he thought to himself as he stared at the familiar face infront of him. Just a small glance and tons of memories starting coming back to him - all the fun and good times he shared with her.
"It's you..." she said quietly, but Ren was still able to catch it. "Er.. yeah. Ren Yukio. I'm guessing you're Ayame then, right?" he sighed. "This isn't getting anywhere..." he thought to himself as he put his hands in his pockets uncomfortably.
As he was thinking of ways to end this awkward 'reunion', he heard his name being shouted down the hall by another familiar face. This time, a tall brown headed male that seemed pretty annoying. "What the-- Y-yousuke-nii?" His eyes widened - how long has it been?
Ren frowned a bit - many people were brushing him in the hallway as they rushed to their early morning classes. He felt claustrophobic but decided to ignore that feeling and started to focus his attention on the two people that used to mean the world to him when he was a kid.
Ren didn't know what to say first; it was either: "I missed you guys!" or, "How've you guys been?!" He didn't know where to start - how long have they've been separated for? But, like the stubborn and stuck up brat Ren was - he decided to act 'cool' and say: "Tch.. you guys are annoying."

Yousuke suddenly paused a little, blinking in confusion as he glanced at the two teenagers next to him. Ayame was small, quiet, and seemed to be in a little state of anxiety and shock. The man frowned, and then looked at Ren. The boy still had that same stubborn smirk all those years ago, but he had changed as well. Yousuke's childhood friends were no longer those same little kids: they had grown up, and had possibly grown up even more than Yousuke himself did.
"Yup, it's Yousuke-nii!" Yousuke suddenly said, shaking his thoughts away with a cheerful clap of his hands. So what? It wasn't as if he didn't except them to grow up, he was just surprised. They were still the little Aya-chan and Ren-chan that he had spent so much time with all those years ago. He had given them piggyback rides and horse rides under the hot glare of the summer sun, built lopsided snowmen with them in the soft and fluffy snow of December, spoiled them with presents as much as possible, played tag with them while running around the entire town, told them stories about anything and everything all day and night long...
"Aw, come on Ren!" Yousuke replied with ease, giving the tall teenager a lighthearted punch in the shoulder. "Must be the teen hormone thingamajig, eh?" he asked, nodding importantly. "Heh, then again it hasn't been that long since I was your age... anyways, how have you two been? How ya liking Aozora so far? Fancy, huh?" he asked cheerfully, trying to ignore the fact that these two probably changed a little too much for Yousuke to handle.

This was so weird. How did they ever get along? So far, Ren just seemed to have grown into a giant douche, but it wasn't far from the smaller version she'd met a decade back, who put snow down the back of her coat, and knocked down her snowmen, claiming to be Godzilla. And Yousuke, he was the weirdest of all. He'd always been happy and lively, but was he always this...flamboyant? A smile as thin and fragile as broken glass spread across his face. Of course this was the Yousuke she knew. The energetic Yousuke that taught her brothers to play soccer, and always let her ride on his shoulders, and gave Ren a good swat on the back of the head when he deserved it. This was him from ten years ago, now standing in front of her again with that big dorky smile on his face.
His voice boomed into her ears like gunshots. It was so bewildering to hear that loud voice again, yet comforting at the same time. Though her life had changed completely, other things had stayed the same.
"This place is huge." she said flatly, looking around. Fancy was an understatement. Of all the places she'd been in her life, of all the temples and palaces she'd seen, this place far surpassed them. "And so endless. It's like I could get lost just looking for too long."
She peered at Ren from the corner of her eye. He'd definitely grown up, even if only physically. Actually, it was the physical she was taking note of.
Stop that, she thought. Don't get involved with anyone. Finish high school, find your father, and slay the monsters that killed your mother and Ryouya.

"I'd appreciate it if you didn't touch me." Ren said glaring at Yousuke the moment his fist touched his arm. He sighed. Ren could already tell this year wasn't going to be an ordinary one.
"...Teen hormone...thingamajig....?" He twitched as he tried to hold back crude comments he already had planned to say. He didn't know what to snap about first - that stupid comment or the fact he actually touched him. Ren tried his best to keep his cool, knowing that these people meant a lot to him in the past he figured he'd give them a chance. He's seventeen now, not a helpless and naive ten year old. He thought he learned from his mistakes by now.
"Aozora's a drag." Ren replied in no effort at all. He stared at the 23 year old with a confused look - how could he know somebody so.. optimistic. He didn't think there could be someone so positive before in his life.
"This place is huge." As soon as Ren heard Ayame's voice, all his attention was on her. He almost forgot she was here, being the quiet girl she always was. And then their eyes met. Maybe for too long, because he started to feel uncomfortable.... again.
He smirked, "What the hell are you looking at, Ayame?" he laughed slightly and teased: "I know I'm good looking and all but it doesn't give you a reason to stare at me 24/7." He knew he was probably going to get hit on the back of the head like she always did when he was smaller, but he's grown too tall for Ayame now.

"W-what..." Yousuke began, but his voice trailed off into silence. Why was Ren acting so cold? Hell, why were both of them acting so cold? As if they didn't want to be there... what happened to that liveliness of theirs? The man took a small step back away from Ren, the happiness in his eyes dropping to a bit of an anxious look.
"...Teen hormone...thingamajig....?"
Yousuke found himself feeling a little angry, but he held it in. He didn't want to loose his cool, not yet. These weren't just any ordinary students, these kids were like his younger siblings. They were more than just random kids he hung out with, they were his family... and they had changed. Both of them had changed so much, and Yousuke didn't like it at all.
"Aozora's a drag."
Yousuke suddenly snapped.
"A teacher is in your presence, Yukio." He retorted coldly, "I would appreciate it if you didn't act so disrespectful to both the school and your superiors." His tone, his way of speaking had changed so fast that it even surprised Yousuke himself.

"I know I'm good looking and all but it doesn't give you a reason to stare at me 24/7." That bastard. It wasn't like she wasn't thinking of that already. He wasn't appealing personality-wise in the least, but the last ten years were very good to him visually.
She narrowed her eyes at him. "I see you finally grew into that ego of yours, Ren. Nice to see." She smirked at him and turned back towards Yousuke. Hopefully now that they'd made rude small talk like old times, things would be less awkward.
But then those words fell from his mouth. "Aozora's a drag." And Yousuke lost it.
"Good job, Ren. We've been here five minutes and you've already upset Yousuke." she snapped. "God, how long are you going to live in that negative facade? You've been like this your whole life. I thought you would have changed by now, but I guess you're still just as predictable as you were the last time I saw you."
She stopped abruptly, and covered her mouth. "I-I'm sorry..."
The last time she'd seen Ren, it was raining. Her parents were fighting with his, and the two of them sat on Yousuke's front porch together, very confused. She remembered what they said to each other before her father picked her up and dragged her to their car, how brutal their words were even as children. He looked so angry. And that was the face she'd remembered through all these years.
"I didn't mean that, Ren." she muttered, looking down. She hadn't changed much more than he did. She still didn't know how to keep her mouth shut.

The mood changed instantly as soon as Yousuke starting shouting at Ren. Only a few moments ago they were reunited, and now everybody was mad at him. He wasn't surprised at all.
"A teacher is in your presence, Yukio" He smiled, "Trying to act like a big shot teacher now, eh? Calling me by my last name and shit" he scratched the back of his head while he held back his laughter. "You should know me by now, Yousuke. Since when have I gave a fuck about school?" He glared - like he always did, and waited for a response. He hasn't gotten into a fight for a while, so let's just say the idea of arguing with someone sounded like fun.
"God, how long are you going to live in that negative facade? You've been like this your whole life. I thought you would have changed by now, but I guess you're still just as predictable as you were the last time I saw you." He turned around as soon as he heard her speak - what the hell did he get into now? What she said was true, it has hardly been ten minutes and now he's gotten both of them mad at him. Ren looked down, not feeling anything but anger and regret.
If she didn't stop by herself - Ren would have told her to do so. "Sorry?" his tone of voice became more and more rude. "You hardly know me anymore; Neither of you fucking do." He was gonna lose it. "I'm not the same 'Ren' you knew years back - stop acting like I am. Both of you are fucking sickening and I hope I don't see neither of you ever again." Ren started to walk away angrily and tried his best not to punch anybody.
"Negative facade? Tch." he thought to himself. He did it again. He said things he didn't mean. He might have just lost his two best friends, and he didn't even make an effort to fix it. His pride got in the way, and he didn't even bother putting it aside and just tried apologizing.
He lost it, like he always did.

Mayumi heard shouting. This wasn't the kind of shouting that she was used to hearing from the theatre... these people were angry.
"God, how long are you going to live in that negative facade? You've been like this your whole life. I thought you would have changed by now, but I guess you're still just as predictable as you were the last time I saw you."
If she hadn't known better, Mayumi would have believed that whoever was shouting was doing so at her. "Delinquents already?" she smirked a bit. "Fantastic,"
Though she was now hiding behind her own facade - the smirking, nothing-harms-me brick wall she had built. She stood stock-still, listening for a long moment. Mayumi was really a little bit terrified at the possibility of meeting the other students. Before she had the opportunity to give it much though, and with a small shake of her head, she stepped around the corner. What she saw surprised her, to say the least - a teacher and a girl carrying a samurai sword behind her arguing with an extremely good looking boy.
She wanted to make her presence known to the three, but she couldn't figure out how. Mayumi honestly didn't want to include herself in their argument - she was annoyed enough as it was -, but didn't want to stand there, wide-eyed, and stare any longer.
Quickly, Mayumi stepped forward, hands deep in the pockets of her blazer and her smirk hurriedly dropping - expressionless again. Her mind was working quickly, hoping to find the correct words. She didn't want to be horrible to them, but she had no idea what else to say.
"You're all quite loud, and can be heard a few hallways away,"
Her eyes flicked between the three of them, stopping on the attractive boy who looked as if he was trying to leave. He looked shockingly familiar, but when Mayumi opened her mouth to ask if she knew him from somewhere, the words got caught and only a small strangled noise escaped.

Yousuke was silent.
He was silent and in a bit of a daze, not being able to hear or speak. He was too surprised and shocked by his own actions. It wasn't everyday that Yousuke lost his cool like that, especially to other people. He was always smiling, happy, and full of positive energy... and even when he wasn't, he would only try to degrade himself and not the people and especially the students around him.
But Ayame and Ren were different.
They were the two kids that Yousuke had spent years of his childhood with. They were the two kids that had caused older students to push and shove Yousuke around, calling him names and beating him up just because he spent most of his time with kids six and seven years younger than him. They were the two kids that caused the thirteen-year-old Yousuke to fight and punch back, the two kids that had caused him to scream time and time again, "Shut up, you fucking assholes! Don't call me a 'faggot' because of them, and don't you fucking dare lay a finger on them!"
And one of those days, Yousuke had come home - beaten and bruised but still wearing one of his energetic smiles - to see both Ren and Ayame sitting on his front porch, and it was then did everything shatter.
Did you really have to remember all that? Yousuke though to himself, biting his lip. Yousuke looked up from his feet and stared at Ren. The teenager's insults and retorts flew right past Yousuke's head, and the man felt too tired to deal with any more of them.
Just then, a girl approached them. It wasn't anyone that Yousuke was familiar with, but she was obviously a student. "Sorry." Yousuke muttered a bit halfheartedly. It wasn't as if he was embarrassed about apologizing to a student, Yousuke knew what he had done wrong. He shouldn't have caused a disruption, no matter how mad he was.

Mayumi tore her eyes away from the boy when she heard a muttered, "Sorry," from somewhere above her. Looking up, she realized it was the teacher who had apologized.
"Shit," she muttered under her breath, looking down at her shoes and willing away the warmth her cheeks had developed. Despite it being her second years at Aozora, Mayumi didn't recognize the teacher. Cursing herself, she mumbled, "Didn't mean to be rude," and looked up from the floor, hoping her pathetic attempt at an apology hadn't been heard by the two students.
Letting her smirk slip back on, Mayumi looked towards the students again. "Kind of a misfit group," she observed aloud, eyeing the girl's katana wearily. "Why would anyone need a sword at a performing arts school, anyway?"

As she watched Ren walk away, a new voice was heard behind her. A girl with milky white skin and dark hair stood at the end of the hall. She and Yousuke flipped a few words back and forth, and Ayame noted the pain on her dear friend's face. And had Ren not walked away already, she knew his face would bear the same expression.
She'd seen that face so many times before, too many times to count, and she knew that she was partially to blame. Of all the mistakes she had made in her life, the ones she most regretted were those that caused Yousuke, her surrogate brother, and Ren, her former best friend, pain. And as much as she wished she could take back things she'd done, she could only try to atone for them.
Her head was still clouded when she heard a question aimed at her. "Why would anyone need a sword at a performing arts school, anyway?"
Ayame straightened up, and looked at the katana hanging from her shoulder. "I'm a samurai." she said sharply. "I carry it with me everywhere. But that's beside the point. I'm Ayame Natsuri, year two. And you are?"
