Even though he wanted to pull away, he couldn't bring himself to. He was waiting for this kiss for a while - and actually feeling it this very moment made him feel a slight moment of happiness. Having their lips lock for the first time in a few weeks, it almost felt... different. This kiss was different from the rest of the kisses they shared - and Ren couldn't pinpoint the exact reason. Was it because of the variety of emotions they were feeling during the time? How much they missed each other these past few weeks, or was it because they actually, finally realized how much they meant to each other?
As much as he hated it, Ren pulled away and leaned his forehead against hers. "Now who said you were allowed to do that?" He said while smirking, pecking her on the lips one last time before they went back to being just awkward strangers. Not sure if he should return those deadly three words back, Ren still held onto her hands just so she didn't leave him.
Laughing a bit, he finally let go of her hands, giving her a choice to leave or to stay. "I..." not sure how to end that sentence, Ren just nodded awkwardly. What were they supposed to do now?

After what felt like years, Ren pulled away and pushed their foreheads together. "Now who said you were allowed to do that?" he asked, smirking. Relieved that he wasn't angry, Ayame laughed to herself.
"Who said I couldn't?" she retorted, winking.
For a few minutes, as they just stood there in the hallway in front of the locked classroom doors, holding hands, kissing, something clicked between both of them. They couldn't be away from either other for too long, and they both knew it, and they both knew that no matter who or what came between them, for whatever reason, they'd never be able to change their feelings.
Chuckling awkwardly, Ren finally let go of her hands. "I..." he began. Looking uncertain, he dismissed whatever he was going to say and nodded. Now that they weren't fighting or talking or really doing anything, there wasn't anything left to do.
She was curious as to what the rest of that sentence was going to be, but at the same time, she didn't want to pry him anymore than she already had. "So, Ren." she began. "I think we have a lot of catching up to do. And classes don't start for a while, so..." Where was she going with this? If she asked him to get coffee with her or something typical like that, would he even go for it? Well, now wasn't the time to think about risks. "Let's talk somewhere else."

Happy that the awkwardness was no longer there, Ren was more relieved at the fact she stayed. "Talk somewhere else?" He said while he put his hand behind his neck. "Like where? Have you eaten breakfast yet? I'll buy you something." He said as he grabbed her hand while he walked a bit down the hall, excited to go wherever they were going.
"I have a lot of things to you ask you, Natsuri." He said in a jokingly serious tone. Waiting for her to follow, he smiled genuinely. This felt nice. There wasn't any pressure - they weren't going out, but yet they were... more then friends. Something along those lines made Ren feel comfortable - just comfortable to be there with her.

"Like where? Have you eaten breakfast yet? I'll buy you something." He took her hand, and led her down the hall. She sighed, surprised that just one kiss made him act so differently.
Following, she nodded, feeling her face heat up again, and the bubbling in her chest return. Even though things were cleared up, the nervousness didn't go away, but when Ren spoke again, her apprehension faded. "I have a lot of things to you ask you, Natsuri."
"Same goes for you, Ren." she replied. "Do I even want to know what you've been up to?"
The scene was probably strange. Two friends. A boy and a girl. They weren't considered boyfriend and girlfriend, but they kissed and held hands and went out together. Even if their friendship was unconventional and complicated, Ayame wouldn't have wanted it any other way.

Ren laughed at her reply; "To be thoroughly honest, I haven't done anything." He said proudly as their hands were still linked. "Haven't talked to anybody since... that day. Haven't flirted with anybody, slept with anybody." The list could go on and on. "Because a certain someone was always on my mind." He sighed heavily, looking back at her.
"Now how about you?" He growled as he stared at her right in the eyes, "I'm pretty sure I made it loud and clear for Sora to stay away from you." He said, "What did you guys talk about?" His eyes narrowed, not caring if he was being nosy or not. "That guy..." He said as he gripped her hand tighter, "Shall I pay a visit to his dorm?"

"To be thoroughly honest, I haven't done anything." He said proudly. "Haven't talked to anybody since... that day. Haven't flirted with anybody, slept with anybody."
She rolled her eyes, but it was good to know that Ren hadn't been whoring himself out. Talking to Sora was awkward enough, but what if she ever had to talk to a girl Ren had been with? She'd probably draw her sword on her in a heartbeat. Feeling stupid for getting jealous about something that hadn't even happened, she pouted to herself, looking up at him from the corner of her eye.
"Now how about you?" he asked, suddenly stopping to look at her. "I'm pretty sure I made it loud and clear for Sora to stay away from you. What did you guys talk about?" he demanded, narrowing his eyes.
Ren hadn't looked this jealous in a while, but she'd have to get used to it. It was his personality after all. But first, she'd have to make it clear that she and Sora were friends and that was it. He couldn't stop her from just being friends.
"That guy...Shall I pay a visit to his dorm?"
Laughing nervously, she squeezed his hand. "Calm down, Ren, we were just talking. We're friends. Either way, he has a boyish... friend." she said stiffly. "And besides, didn't I just go off on a tangent about how much I love you? I don't love Sora. And...I don't really love what you guys did in the nurse's office either." she added coyly, pulling him down the hall by his hand. "But that, just like everything else, is in the past, and we need to move on." she finished, which was a bit of an obscure thing for her to say, seeing as she was constantly getting caught up in things that happened years ago.

As Ayame squeezed her hand, Ren loosened his grip a bit. Seeing how sincere she was being about this, Ren had no choice but to believe her. "Boyish friend?" He repeated as he laughed. "I didn't see that one coming." He said as he shook his head. "And what happened at the Nurse's Office only happened because I was drunk." He looked at her pathetically, "Please don't bring that up. I had a whole two weeks going without thinking about that." He sighed as he murmured that sentence, face palming.
"You know I don't move on from the past easily." He said as he was walking along as she dragged him this time. "But if it's for you, I'll try..." He said sheepishly as he covered his face with his free hand. "Anyways, if I still see him around... he's not going to get away without feeling any pain." He said as he stared at her, "Having the nerve to cuddle with my girlfriend." He said - but then stopped all of a sudden.
"...I mean, my... ex..."

"Boyish friend?" he laughed. "I didn't see that one coming." Ren said, shaking his head. Ayame looked at him, a little surprised. Sora almost got into his pants and somehow Sora being gay was a shock to him? "And what happened at the Nurse's Office only happened because I was drunk."
She nodded, smiling a bit. Ren seemed to have relaxed about the Sora situation, but she decided it wasn't the right time to get them to talk. "Yeah, I remember." she said, unable to get the image of Ren's drunk, helpless face out of her head.
"You know I don't move on from the past easily." he said as she involuntarily dragged him along. "But if it's for you, I'll try..."
A blush spread across her face, and a small smile, and she made a quick mental note to keep Sora and Ren separate from conversation. She didn't want to irritate him more than she probably already did.
"Anyways, if I still see him around... he's not going to get away without feeling any pain. Having the nerve to cuddle with my girlfriend." He said, but suddenly stopping.
"...I mean, my... ex..."
For a few seconds, Ayame was sure her heart had stopped beating. That realization didn't really hit yet, considering they never really felt like a couple when they were. In fact, this was the first time they ever really seemed like it. Now that they were broken up, and hadn't spoken in weeks.
Trying to neutralize his slip up, she offered a small grin and held his hand a bit tighter. "I was your girlfriend back then, I get what you meant to say." she said quietly, turning her head away. After cooperating for this long, she wouldn't ruin it or say anything wrong.

"Thanks for understanding." Ren said as he let go of her hand, realizing that's not what 'friends' should do. "..Lets get going to that restaurant as friends, shall we?" He went ahead of her this time, taking quiet foot steps - like he was sneaking out of the house or something.
Still feeling insecure about everything, Ren lowered his head in shame. "Aren't you tired? Want to just hang out the whole day?" He said, "I don't plan to go to class like this anyway."

"Thanks for understanding." Ren said, letting go of her hand. "..Lets get going to that restaurant as friends, shall we?" She knew that somehow, she would say something that would make him let go eventually. Prepared for it, she just forced a smile on her face and nodded. She said it herself, friends.
"Aren't you tired? Want to just hang out the whole day? I don't plan to go to class like this anyway." he asked, stepping toward. She sighed inwardly. She was expecting him to excuse himself and go back to sleep or find a way out, but...he wanted to spend the day with her?
Unable to stop thinking of the work she'd have to make up, but nonetheless in no condition to turn down his offer, she hurried to meet with him. "This is the second time in a month we've skipped together." she mumbled hesitantly. Of course spending time with Ren and catching up was important to her, but wasn't school important too? Ignoring her inner goody two-shoes, she shrugged. "Whatever. Let's consider it... a mental health day. Makes enough sense, right?"

"Mental health day?" Ren started laughing, "Yeah... you were always pretty fuckin' lame." He said as he shook his head while laughing at that statement. "Sure. But I'd prefer a normal hang out." He said, "As friends." As much as he hated to say the words he was going to say, he had to. It was for the best. "No kissing, or holding hands. That whole deal." He sounded like he was setting rules for something - and... without knowing it, he was. Stopping in his tracks for a second, he widened his eyes. "I.. mean, I don't want to tell you what to do and shit but..." He shoved his hands in his pockets. "I'm your friend. Just like I was years ago." Smiling at her weakly, Ren felt a bit guilty. His insecurities were really just too much for him to handle.
"..I'll help you find that guy. He's out there, I'm sure." Looking down, clenching his fists - "I mean, I have to approve of him first, don't I? You can't love me forever." Biting his tongue, Ren didn't know what he was saying. He was never like this - after all, every time a girl confessed her love to him, he'd use every opportunity possible to manipulate her. But this wasn't the case for Ayame. Shaking those memories away, Ren mentally sighed. He was walking in a maze, and he didn't know which was the right way - currently, he felt like he was at a dead end.

"Mental health day?" Ren laughed. "Yeah... you were always pretty fuckin' lame."
Ayame stuck out her tongue and crossed her arms.
"Sure. But I'd prefer a normal hang out." he continued. "As friends. No kissing, or holding hands. That whole deal. I.. mean, I don't want to tell you what to do and shit but...I'm your friend. Just like I was years ago."
A little confused, Ayame just stared at him vacantly. He didn't really need to lay down rules after they just broke them, did he? Either way, it was already decided that they were just friends. "..I'll help you find that guy. He's out there, I'm sure. I mean, I have to approve of him first, don't I? You can't love me forever."
He looked uncomfortable again. A bit like he'd just swallowed vinegar or had a bone snap. Of course, now wasn't the time to fix that, so to keep her own walls from breaking down, Ayame gently touched his shoulder. Is that a challenge? she thought. She smiled up at him sadly, unsure of what to say or do next. "I don't really think I want to be with anyone just yet." she said simply. "So don't worry about it. Where do you want to go?"

Seeing her act all cute made it harder for Ren to restrain himself - but he had to. For now, perhaps. Sighing in relief as Ayame rejected his own request, he truly questioned his sanity. He really was a masochist of some sort. His hands still in his pockets, that weak smile hasn't left his face. "Let's just.. take a long walk until we find a place." He said as he tilted his head to the direction they were going to go. "I just feel.. like being with you right now." It was always hard for Ren to admit his feelings, but he did it easily this time, and it was refreshing.
Walking ahead of her and automatically assuming she'd follow along, it was a great way to just... continue their friendship that they dropped for a relationship they weren't ready for. They originally were best friends, and for the time being, it should stay that way. Even though they love each other mutually, Ren needed to find out who he was before he jumped into another serious relationship with his soul mate.
