Ren started laughing really hard. He didn't know at what - The fact that Ayame was truly trying, or her acting. "What did I tell you?" He said as he read over her lines as she was saying them. "I guess it's my turn, hmmm?" He cleared his throat and began saying his lines.
He recited them with ease, and stared at Ayame with a gentle expression wiped all over his face. "5000 miles away and you are still right here, in my heart and mind. Although distance between two hearts is not an obstacle; rather a great reminder of just how strong true love can be." After saying those lines - he held a straight face for a few minutes. Then bursted out laughing. "What the fuck is this shit are you serious? This is seriously going to kill my reputation." Ren said as he couldn't stop laughing. "Jesus christ."

"I know, right? People don't really say things like this do they?" she laughed. For a second, they were laughing together, at the same thing. Not her laughing at him. Not him laughing at her. For once in a decade, they were laughing at the same thing again.
She wiped her eyes and looked at him again, and regained composure. Was she imagining this? Were they really...agreeing on something? A smile spread across both of their faces for the first time since they'd arrived at Aozora, and it wasn't at Yousuke's expense either.

Ren hasn't laughed like this in a while, and in a way it was... refreshing. Genuinely laughing with someone you actually know - and having fun. That was definitely something Ren missed. Ren felt Ayame's eyes drift onto his, and all of a sudden - awkwardness ensued. The laughter disappeared into pure silence, and Ren cleared his throat.
"So, er." Ren said as he flipped through the pages. "Is there anything else you'd like to go through?" He said quickly. This was the longest he's gone in a conversation without making a rude remark - that was rare. "You know, Ayame.." he said in a quiet tone while looking at the ground.
"I guess...." He mumbled and put his hands through his hair.
"I was wrong about you."

"You know, Ayame.."
"I was wrong about you."
Her eyes widened and her cheeks turned red. She held her breath and didn't look away from her script. "I was wrong about you." Well, he was, wasn't he? Why was she getting so worked up over him admitting the truth? He was wrong, afterall, but even so...
"I was wrong about you too," she mumbled, smiling. She turned away, trying to hide the blush across her pale cheeks. "I shouldn't have yelled at you... or slapped you..." She sighed and put the script down, and leaned back in her chair, still avoiding his eyes.
Her heart was beating a million times per second. What was she getting so excited for? It was just Ren, nothing special. But that's where she was wrong. Ren was special, whether she wanted to admit that or not.

Ren smiled as he saw Ayame's cheeks turn bright red. "Tch, can you make it anymore obvious?" Ren thought to himself as he started laughing quietly. "Damn straight you shouldn't have yelled at me - or more importantly, slapped me." He said with an irritated tone this time, but managed to smile anyway.
"Why are your cheeks so red?" Ren teased, "Are you sick?" He leaned over and put his hand on her forehead and smiled. "You're heating up." He said playfully as he looked straight into her eyes. "Do you need to go to the nurse's office, Ayame chan?" He couldn't stop teasing her, but this opportunity was too tempting to pass up.
Who was he kidding? Of course he knew Ayame wasn't sick. He was just playing around to see how she would react. "She's going to hit me." He thought as he laughed to himself.

Slapping his hand away, she smirked at him. "It doesn't matter, let's just finish this. You'll be able to memorize this by next week, right?"
Next week. Then she'd have to follow through with her deal, and leave him alone for as long as he wanted, which she was pretty sure was forever. She smiled sadly, reading over the scripts, and all the nice things he'd have to say. At least she could pretend that he was really saying these things. That would be a good way of saying goodbye, even if he didn't mean what he was saying.
In a way, she was relieved. If she left him alone, she wouldn't get mad at him anymore, and he wouldn't get mad at her, right? So then, why was she still feeling so sad?

"No shit." Ren said with a bratty tone as he moved his hand away from her forehead. "Gee, touchy." He smiled as he put his hands in his pocket. "I was just worrying about you, no need to slap my hand, Ayame chan." He grinned evilly and blinked a few times.
He coughed a bit, "So you really plan to leave me alone if we get a good mark on this?" He looked at Ayame behind all the hair infront of his face. Was that really what he wanted? Of course not. They just begun to get along, and was she really going to ruin it like this - or was he really going to let her?
"Look, Ayame." He looked at her and moved the hair out of his face gently. "Want to practice this tomorrow?"
What am I saying?
"You know, after school."
God damnit, stop it, Ren. You're going to give her the wrong ide-
"....Out of campus."
You're blushing now, Ren. Pull yourself together, god damnit.
"In the town, perhaps...?"
He got up abruptly and covered his red face. "Ugh, just fucking be there at 6pm alright? I'll meet you outside the movie theatre or whatever."
He stormed out, and stopped at the end of the hallway -
"DON'T GET THE WRONG FUCKING IDEA. I just.. want a good mark on this so you can leave me alone!" Ren shouted as he finally left.
"THIS ISN'T A DATE... OR ANYTHING."

"THIS ISN'T A DATE... OR ANYTHING."
Her face turned beet red. She didn't even want to imagine what she must have looked like, because she knew it was probably pretty pathetic. Sweat gathered on her forehead and her hands got cold. Every cell in her body was exploding, and she couldn't move a muscle.
"Tomorrow," she thought. "6 o clock." She couldn't breathe. "Movie theatre." Whatever he was doing, he was doing it well, but she wouldn't be caught off guard.
She tried her hardest to convince herself that all she was concerned about was the play, and getting the lines down, and nothing else. But she couldn't even fool herself. She watched him walk away, waiting on the 50/50 chance that he'd turn around, which he didn't. She stood, and walked down the opposite hall, and put her hand on her neck.
Her heart was going crazy. Why was she going so insane? And why was she thinking about going straight to her dorm to pick out what she would change into after classes tomorrow?
You're getting pretty pathetic, Ayame. she thought. But if you're going to anywhere, you might as well lose your mind here.
END.
