There it was, Chiaki's blush. The butterflies stirred for a moment. Dai liked his blush, it was cute, and very worthy of the name Chi.
”Of course, silly~ You make holding hands sound like a crime, or something! Next time, you don’t even have to ask~ ☆”
"Ah! Uh, that's not what I..." he began to try to explain himself but smiled instead, knowing there was no point, "Okay next time I wont."
Daisuke liked being dragged around the mall. He hated having to make decisions, and with Chiaki leading the way Dai felt more at ease. The constant hand contact was nice too. Holding Chi's hand was a nice feeling. He had never held a guys hand before, it was strange... in a good way. It was smaller than his, but in no way did that make it feel weak. Chi's hand was kind of rough... like a boy's hand should be. It wasn't fragile and breakable it was something that Dai could hold without feeling overpowering. It was really...nice.
Dai noticed Chi as he oogled at certain things and he just knew he wasn't asking for them just to be polite. Is it weird that that alone made him blush? Chiaki was thinking about him, and that made him happy. Whenever Chi would look away, Dai would snatch whatever it was that Chi was looking at and would hide it on his person, picking something cheap and randoms so he would have an excuse to go to the cash register and buy it. But how do you give presents to a person on a first date? Wasn't that a bit weird?
”Okay, I’m done!~ Wanna go sit down over there and talk? I mean, we can get food if you want. I’m always ready to eat. ~”
Dai's stomach growled, but he saw a crepe stand right near the little corner Chi was pointing to. "You go an save us a seat okay? I'll go get us some!" He offered, smiling, "U-Um unless you didn't want one..."

”You go and save us a seat okay? I’ll go get us some!” Dai had offered, stomach growling loudly only a few seconds before. “U-Um unless you didn’t want one…” The crepes looked pretty good; Chiaki wouldn’t mind downing one of them. Or three.
”Yeah, I’d like one. Please!~” He responded, plopping down in one of the chairs and setting the single plastic bag with his nyan-cat shirt on the other. ”Aye aye, Cap’n! I’ll hold down the fort until you get back!” Chiaki shouted this from across the moderately deserted plaza, forcing his face into a fake, vaguely serious-looking deadpan before giving Daisuke a short salute, fingertips at his forehead.
While his date was off getting crepes—seriously, how much gayer could they get?—Chiaki thought of things to ask, the things that he should probably know about Dai if this were to go any further. Any further? That thought in itself was a little scary; he’d been on dates before, but had never felt like pursuing the other guy after they were done. Daisuke was a different story: Chiaki hardly knew anything about him, but he wanted to know more.
Hm, he thought, mentally preparing a list. How about his age? Is that rude to ask? Eh, nah. Should be fine. Then.. uh.. Major? Things he likes to do? Shoe size? ‘cause, y’know what they say about big shoes… Chiaki laughed a little to himself at that one, crossing it out from his list until later. Top or botto—no, definitely not that one. The idea of the whirlwind of blushing and stuttering that would ensue if he asked Dai such a thing was amusing… but Chiaki wasn’t going to ask him anything like that on the first date.
Okay, so: age, major, things he likes to do, and possibly shoe size. Got it.

”Yeah, I’d like one. Please!~ Aye aye, Cap’n! I’ll hold down the fort until you get back!”
Dai laughed, saluting him back, "I'm counting on you." He walked toward the crepe booth, looking into his bag of Chi presents. How was he going to give these to him? Oh hi, by the way while you weren't looking I bought you all the shit you wanted but were too nice to ask me for. No. He wasn't going to say that.
"Um, two banana chocolate crepes please." Dai ordered, interrupted in thought. The lady quickly made his order and he walked back over to Chiaki, warm chocolate dripping onto his fingers.
Dai's stomach flipped as he approached the boy. He licked the chocolate off of his fingers before he handed the less messy one to Chiaki, "Be careful, it's a little messy." Licking off more chocolate, Dai sighed. First date, you get chocolate all over yourself, real attractive. As Dai went to sit down next to Chiaki his long leg knocked over his bag, the contents spilling onto the floor. Well... I guess that's a way to show him. Dai thought inwardly mortified.

Chocolate dripped on to his hands as Daisuke handed him the less messy of the crepes. Wow, did they smell good! “Be careful, it’s a little messy.” Chiaki nodded, taking a huge bite out of the crepe, somehow managing to keep the chocolate off of his face. Dai, on the other hand, hadn’t had the same luck. ”Y-you’ve got something right there,” Chiaki said, having trouble speaking through his uncontrollable laughing. He just looked so cute there, all upset that he’d gotten food on himself. ”Er, y’know, everywhere! Here, lemme get that for you.”
Chiaki was reaching for a napkin when Daisuke knocked over the bag he’d been carrying—was that the Totoro cell phone charm he’d been looking at? Incredulous, he grabbed the sack, mortified to note that it had all sorts of things he’d wanted during their little escapade. Did he get these when I wasn’t looking? Chiaki thought, deadpanning as their eyes locked. Y-you didn’t have to do that…
”D-Dai… um…” Chiaki was at a loss for words, butterflies double-edging against his ribcage. How had he even known what stuff to buy? It wasn’t like he’d said, ‘oh, hey, I wish I could get this but I don’t have any money!’ about every little thing he wanted; if anything, he’d tried very, very hard to keep stuff like that locked away. ”I-I mean, t-that’s really nice of you, but.. you didn’t have t-to do that, y’know?”
The next chain of events was a blur, even to Chiaki; he wasn’t quite sure why he did any of it, really. Crepe in hand, chocolate dripping onto the mall floor, he closed the distance between the two of them, bending over so they were at eye level. ”I-I mean… D-Dai, you’re really sweet,” he said, smiling, planting a light kiss on his date’s cheek.
Reluctantly, Chiaki stood back up to his full height, devouring the last of his crepe and licking the remaining chocolate off of his fingers. ”But I am afraid that I cannot accept these gifts!” He put his right hand over his heart, voice laden with feigned melodrama. ”A-at least, not without paying you first! And since I have no money, I must find another way to pay!~”

He could not believe that he had knocked over the bag. It was as if time had slowed, and the mortification would never end. He opened his mouth to stutter but Chiaki began to talk.
”I-I mean, t-that’s really nice of you, but.. you didn’t have t-to do that, y’know?”
Dai looked down, at the chocolate that was hopelessly dripping all over his fingers and blushed, "I know, but... I could see that you wanted them and... well I knew you didn't have money so... I bought them for you." he was embarrassed, but... he didn't regret buying them for Chiaki.
Blue eyes blinked at Chi now that he was only a few inches away from his face. The buzzing that was once contained in his stomach now sparked through his entire being. And surprisingly, underneath all of the nervousness...Dai was a little excited for what would come next.
And then it happened.
Chi kissed him. It was on the cheek, but that was enough. His face turned a beet red as his eyes widened. He couldn't even babble. The only thing that snapped Dai out of his shock was Chi denying his gifts.
"No!" Dai frowned, his clean hand grabbing Chi's. "I bought them as gifts. Please accept them." Dai's eyes were huge, and his face was still red from the kiss. His first kiss. Ever. "Y-You don't have to pay me back. I wanted to get them for you..."

Daisuke was blushing again, and this time it looked like his face could burst into flames if anything else unexpected happened. Chiaki was both amazed and grateful that he could inspire a reaction like that in someone, anyone, with just a kiss on the cheek.
”No!” Dai was frowning now, Chi’s hand clutched tightly inside of his. “I bought them as gifts. Please accept them.” Chiaki opened his mouth, and then closed it. For once, he was speechless. He didn’t want Dai to spend all his money on him, but found it impossible to say no to him. Not while the accursed butterflies in his chest kept fluttering around, refusing to stop.
It was around this time that Chiaki realised what a catch Daisuke was; they hardly knew each other, they’d met in a locker room, of all places, yet here he was, secretly buying him presents. It was so sweet that he didn’t even know what to do with himself.
“Y-You don’t have to pay me back. I wanted to get them for you…” Eyes still locked, Chiaki sighed, smiling wanly. ”Oh, alright… How could I say no to that face?”
Tentatively, he glided into the other boy’s lap, throwing his arms around Dai’s bony chest. ”But I don’t like being in debt, so I’ll just pay you with myself~ ☆”

”Oh, alright… How could I say no to that face?”
Dai felt kind of proud. He had a face people couldn't say no to? Funny, Kou had said the same thing to him, but Kou blamed it on Dai's natural charm. Smiling, he let go of Chiaki's hand, and took a bite of his crepe.
When Chi sat on his lap, Dai flinched. "C-Chi!" Dai sputtered, his arms trying to avoid touching Chiaki. Chi always did this! Surprising him with affection. But this time was different. Dai wasn't embarrassed, or nervous, he was... happy that Chi was sitting in his lap. Some how it felt, right.
Did he seriously just think that? Oh gosh. Now he was nervous. He had never liked a boy before... well he hadn't liked anyone before. What did it mean? Casting those thoughts to the back of his mind, Dai found his arms slowly resting onto Chi's sides, careful not to drip chocolate on him.
”But I don’t like being in debt, so I’ll just pay you with myself~ ☆”
"W-What does that mean?!" He gasped, his thoughts spilling into words.

Daisuke's arms had slowly crept onto Chiaki's sides, small sparks of electricity coursing through the upper layer of his skin whenever they brushed the fabric of his shirt. "W-What does that mean?!" Daisuke had asked, as palpably confused as Chiaki had expected him to be upon hearing his previous sentence. Luckily, he'd already worked out what he was going to say as a follow-up. Predictably, it began with innuendo: the kind of innuendo where he himself wasn't quite sure whether he was being serious or not.
"...oh, I'm sure you can connect the dots..." Chiaki whispered, trying to sound as slutty as he possibly could. No doubt this would cause Daisuke to foam at the mouth - did he even know what sex was? - and, truth be told, he rather enjoyed making the other boy uncomfortable. The ensuing stuttering and fits of blushing were cute, borderline obscene in the way they made his stomach do flip turns. Was it normal to like someone this much on the first date, when you still hardly knew anything about him? "Just kidding! Unless, y-y'know.. nevermind." Chiaki wasn't sure himself how far he wanted to go with Dai - anyone, really. He decided that he'd cross that bridge if, and when, they got to it.
This was the part where he followed up with a sincere statement, having no doubt teased Daisuke into reacting in an adorable fashion. Their pattern of interaction was already ingrained in Chiaki's thought process; it felt like a dance he'd been doing for years, even though they'd known each other for only a few hours at the most. Moving his head from its place at Dai's collarbones, their eyes locked. This was the part where he was supposed to say something unbelievably romantic, and thankfully, he had something in mind.
"W-what I mean is that I'll.. um.." Chiaki looked into Daisuke's clear blue eyes and swore he'd never want to see anything else. "Anything you need, I'll do it. If you'd have be as your boyfriend, I'd gladly say yes. If you'd rather I go away, I'd do it - even though I'd rather stay. Whistle, and I'll come running."

"...oh, I'm sure you can connect the dots..."
The thing was... Daisuke had absolutely no idea that there were any dots to connect. Dai shivered, and his body stiffened at the boy's whisper. He knew his face had to be ridiculously red by now, but that was the least of his worries. What were the dots he was supposed to be connecting, and would he even know how to connect them when he figured them out?
He looked at Chi with blue doe eyes, absolutely stunned. It was so confusing to be with Chi, he wanted to please him and talk to him normally but nothing came out right. Is this what it was like? Did people who you liked make you feel this way? But this was his first date... weren't things supposed to feel like this later on? He had only seen in movies... Maybe real life didn't adhere to the same rules.
"Just kidding! Unless, y-y'know.. nevermind."
"No wait." Dai whispered sheepishly, "I don't know about any dots but.... Maybe you could help me connect them. At least give me the little numbers to follow." He smiled, trying to make a joke, which was probably failing horribly.
"W-what I mean is that I'll.. um.. Anything you need, I'll do it. If you'd have be as your boyfriend, I'd gladly say yes. If you'd rather I go away, I'd do it - even though I'd rather stay. Whistle, and I'll come running."
Dai dropped his crepe. What did Chiaki say? "M-Me?" Dai gaped, unable to believe what he had just heard. "Chi, a-are you serious? Because... I mean I've never had a boyfriend and you seem pretty sure of yourself and..." he was just babbling now. From locker room, to date, to boyfriend? The scariest part was that Dai was kind of okay with it. "I just want to let you know that I might not be a good boyfriend... But I could try?" he looked away from Chi's eyes and blushed.

"No wait." Dai had whispered sheepishly, droves of goosebumps surfacing on Chiaki's skin. "I don't know about any dots but.... Maybe you could help me connect them. At least give me the little numbers to follow." It was obvious that the sexual tension he'd tried to pump into that whisper had gone way over Dai's head - it was cute how innocent he was. Painfully cute.
"M-Me? Chi, a-are you serious? Because... I mean I've never had a boyfriend and you seem pretty sure of yourself and..." Dai was shaking and babbling and he'd dropped his crepe on the ground; was this his way of saying no? Chiaki didn't think so, but the idea of rejection had never seemed so insurmountable before. "I just want to let you know that I might not be a good boyfriend... But I could try?"
It took a moment for these words to register with him, and when they did, Chiaki was certain that he'd never felt more blissful in his entire life. "Really?!" he exclaimed, eyes as big as dinner plates, putting his hands on Dai's face and turning his head so they made eye contact again. "You'll be a great boyfriend, Dai~su~ke~ ☆" Sitting up ramrod straight, Chiaki craned his neck upward and kissed him on the cheek again before hopping out of his lap, careful not to step on the crepe. Like a flash, he sat back down in the chair opposite Dai.
"Alright! We have made it to first base!" Chiaki said, positively beaming, pumping a fist into the air a single time to indicate a successful victory. "That means... uhm.. I can't remember, but it's an important milestone!" Looking off to the side for a moment, index finger to his lips, he thought about bases for a second before realising that he'd distracted himself again. "Okay! Dai, your mission for today is to tell me everything about yourself! I'll answer your questions, too, but you go first~"

"You'll be a great boyfriend, Dai~su~ke~ ☆"
Daisuke, smiled "You think so?" The fluttery feeling inside his chest wouldn't disappear. If hadn't been an avid shoujo manga reader he wouldn't know anything about this sort of feeling. It felt as if Chi left his lap, all 6 feet and 3 inches of him would float away.
Chi kissed him again, and this time he leaned into it. For a moment, he wondered what they would feel like on his lips. The very thoughts colored his face red.
"Alright! We have made it to first base! That means... uhm.. I can't remember, but it's an important milestone!"
"There are bases?" Why hadn't shoujo prepared him for this? He knew he should have read that bl novel his roommate had given him. Damnit. Shrugging, Dai watched as he new found boyfriend sat across from him. Had Chi always been this cute? Oh God what was happening to him?
"Okay! Dai, your mission for today is to tell me everything about yourself! I'll answer your questions, too, but you go first~"
Dai smiled, his stomach flipping. To have someone know everything about him? If some one asked him to tell them that a couple of hours ago, Dai would have found someway to get out of it, but... he wanted to tell Chi everything. "Sure, but one thing first." Dai beamed, taking a hold of Chiaki's hand. He told him that he didn't have to ask to hold his hand again right? "Everything about me. Hm. I like the color purple, I love music, I like reading, video games, and comics."

"Sure, but one thing first," Daisuke said, sliding Chiaki's hand into his without warning. He'd been about to explain the concept of 'bases', but found himself a little too flustered to grab on to the words floating around in his head. Wow, was he warm; and wow, he'd just derailed his trail of thought. Again.
"Everything about me. Hm. I like the color purple, I love music, I like reading, video games, and comics." Chiaki smiled as the other boy answered his question - there had to be more about him than that, but it was a start.
"Purple?" Chiaki laughed - was that why Dai's hair was such an unusual colour? Although, upon looking at it another time, his gay boy senses told him that it was naturally that way. Stranger things had happened, he supposed. "That colour's always looked terrible on me - unless it was you on me, but y'know." Chances were Daisuke wouldn't get that one, but that was part of his charm.
Dai said that he liked music... was he a music major, too? "Are you a music major, too?" Chiaki asked, excitement palpable. "Do you play an instrument, too? I play the piano!"
Slow down! Chiaki told himself, stemming the flood of questions that he was dying to ask - What's your favourite book? What kind of games do you play? What's your favourite manga?
Let him talk.

"Purple? That colour's always looked terrible on me - unless it was you on me, but y'know."
Daisuke blinked like a confused puppy, he had no idea what that could mean. "Well purple is just... My color I guess." he laughed gesturing to his whole self with his free hand. With one look at Dai you could tell that his color was purple... He was all purple. "Oh I have something no one knows about me! I have a stuffed animal that I've had since kindergarten. His name is Aki." Silly information, but... it was important to him.
"Are you a music major, too? Do you play an instrument, too? I play the piano!"
His blue eyes sparkled and he pulled Chi toward him in a fit of excitement. "Yes! I'm a singer!" Could Chi get any cuter and more perfect? "I play the piano too! Along with the guitar, and the bass, and drums, and the sax and... Yeah I play a lot of instruments..." he blushed. He got a little too excited when he talked about music. It was his whole life. Or well.... It was.

"Well purple is just... My color I guess," Daisuke said, motioning to his entire body. Chiaki smiled and said, "I agree~" Purple really did flatter him, didn't it? Chiaki tried to imagine him with a different hair colour and the results were disasterous - he couldn't help but chuckle a little bit to himself as his boyfriend(!!) continued to speak.
"Oh I have something no one knows about me! I have a stuffed animal that I've had since kindergarten. His name is Aki."
The mental picture of Daisuke sleeping - naked, of course, this was Chiaki's imagination - with a stuffed animal named Aki was enough to give him a mental nosebleed. He couldn't even imagine the other boy doing having any cuter qualities than having a prized stuffed animal. "Aww!~" Chiaki's thoughts ran onto his tongue and spilled outside. "Dai, that's so cute~ Aw~ Can I meet Aki sometime?"
Daisuke's eyes had been sparkling when Chiaki's question finally registered; he pulled him in close, equally excited.
"Yes! I'm a singer! I play the piano too! Along with the guitar, and the bass, and drums, and the sax and... Yeah I play a lot of instruments..."
Somehow, he had managed to make himself even more appealing to Chiaki, which at this point was a feat in itself. "Wow... all those instruments?" he said, more than a little amazed. "You must be really good! We should play a duet sometime~ ☆"

"Dai, that's so cute~ Aw~ Can I meet Aki sometime?"
Daisuke blushed, no one knew about Aki... not even his roommate and that was hard to do. Poor Aki had to hide underneath a pillow all day. "Of course, he has to meet my boyfriend." The last words caught in his throat. His boyfriend. Oh God. That was strange, but... it made him feel all fuzzy again. He could get used to this.
When he looked back at what he said, Daisuke was embarrassed that he had sounded like he was bragging about all of the instruments he could play. He didn't mean to show off, but he got carried away when it came to music.
"Wow... all those instruments? You must be really good! We should play a duet sometime~ ☆"
He beamed, squeezing Chi's hand. "I'm okay I guess." He shrugged. He's never really thought he was amazing, but he wasn't going to deny that he was good at what he did. "I would love to sing a duet with you."
