Characters: Chiaki Yuzuru and Daisuke Kudo. Time: after school. Location: the mall!
Chiaki had spent the rest of the school day strangely excited for the date he’d set up, hardly paying attention to anything he was told. It wasn’t like he expected to create a deep connection or anything, it was just something unusual to look forward to.
Several bowls of fast food ramen had been consumed as Chiaki waited patiently for the other boy—his stomach had been agonizingly empty after school had got out, and he was far less friendly when he was hungry. He’d dressed quickly, changing out of his uniform and into his usual white blazer, his favourite yellow scarf draped around his neck to combat the mid-September chill.
Hmm, wonder when he’s getting here? Chiaki thought, taking another look at his phone. Briefly, he wondered whether Daisuke was going to come or not—it’d be fairly understandable for him to not want to go out with someone who’d asked in a locker room, of all places. But, he supposed, it would be alright if he didn’t come; he had shopping to do and there was always room for more ramen, if need be.

He had been at this whole dressing himself for an hour now. Singing lessons had ended early so Dai had been left with a lot of time to himself. Not good.
Right now Dai's bunk was covered with his clothes. He stood in front of his mirror unsatisfied and growled. "This is why I have to go shopping. I have nothing to wear." He said pouting, his hands on his hips. How Dai ever concealed his gayness will always be a mystery.
With a sigh, Dai threw on a white shirt and pushed his arms through his familiar purple and black striped hoodie. He fixed his hair clip and twirled his red scarf around his neck before stuffing his phone, keys and wallet into his pockets. He looked twice at his gray coat before deciding against it, and then he walked out of the dorm, butterflies eating away at his stomach.
When Daisuke finally arrived at the mall, the butterflies in his stomach had gone into a frenzy and traveled into his other limbs. He actually felt if he opened his mouth for too long one might escape. With quivering hands Dai took out his phone and just stared for a bit at the contact 'Chiaki'. Call him.[/color] Taking a deep breath, Dai dialed the number. Waiting for Chiaki's voice on the other line was agonizing. And the second he heard him Dai spoke nervously, "Hi it's Daisuke, from the...locker room today. I'm here...where are you?"

”Hi it’s Daisuke, from the…locker room today. I’m here…where are you?”
Chiaki was more than a little surprised that Daisuke actually called him back, but was also pretty happy about it, for whatever reason. ”Hiya! I’ll be at the entrance in a second!~” He had to force himself to quit skipping halfway to the entrance, throwing away the empty plastic bowls before proceeding.
Daisuke stood out against the rest of the crowd, at least a head taller than everyone else with purple hair, to boot. ”How’s it going?” he sang, walking up next to the other boy. Wow, he’s cute. He has pretty eyes, and I like the hair clip… Also, decent fashion sense! Although… he looks nervous. Really, really nervous. Has he not done this before?
It took Chiaki a second to realise that he’d been staring, flushing slightly as he came back to reality. ”Y-yeah, so, um. What do you want to do?” In hindsight, he probably should have thought this one out more—asking Dai out had been purely on impulse, and now that it was actually happening he found himself at a loss for where to go next.

”Hiya! I’ll be at the entrance in a second!~”
"Okay." A smile crept up on Dai as he shut the phone and slid it back into his pocket. His first date. Ever. And with a boy! This was pretty exciting. Leaning his back against a wall, Dai waited for Chiaki, fingering his belt loops.
When Chiaki arrived half skipping Dai heaved himself off of the wall and toward him. ”How’s it going?” He wasn't sure if that was rhetoric, so he answered with a smile and head nod signalling that he was indeed very good.
Was that a blush that Dai saw? Oh yes it was. The outgoing, see-you-in-your-underwear-and-not-care Chiaki was blushing, and Dai had to admit, he looked really cute when he was blushing. ”Y-yeah, so, um. What do you want to do?"
That was something that they both didn't think through. What did people do on dates? Walk around? Talk? Dasuke had no freaking clue. Tapping his finger to his chin, Dai decided, "How about we start over there?" He pointed toward his favorite clothing store and smiled. This was a good place. They had time to talk AND they got to shop.

”How about we start over there?”
Daisuke had pointed to one of his favourite shops; apparently, this one had good taste. ”Alright!” Chiaki said, walking ahead of the other boy and through the store’s entrance.
Everything was fifty percent off, making the store a thousand times better than it usually was. Chiaki didn’t have a whole lot of money on him—he’d spent the majority of it on food, unfortunately—but he had enough to buy a shirt or two, maybe even a pair of pants if they were dirt cheap.
Oh, right. I should stick with him.
”Come here often?” Chiaki asked, walking over to where the other boy was. He'd kind of wandered off for a minute or so, but as Daisuke would soon learn, he was easily distracted. ”Yeah, I… heh. I already spent most of my money, so you can shop first.” Nervously, he laughed, hand rubbing the back of his neck.

For someone short, Chiaki was pretty fast. Good thing that Dai had long legs, so it only took him a couple of strides to keep up with Chiaki, even though he was still bouncing ahead of him. It was that energy that Dai liked about Chiaki. Despite their unfortunate meeting, Chiaki was someone that Dai wouldn't mind having around. In anyway he wanted to be.
When he walked into the store and noticed all of the red sale signs, Dai looked at the store with twinkling eyes, pushing away the urge to squeal. No seriously, how do people not automatically know that he's gay? Dai was stroking the sleeve of a striped thermal, stripes are kinda his thing, when he heard Chiaki speak. ”Come here often? Yeah, I… heh. I already spent most of my money, so you can shop first.”
Ripping away from the glory of the sale, Dai turned to his date and pouted, "What did you spend all of your money on?"

Oh, yeah. Way gay, Chiaki thought to himself, having noticed the telltale signs in the other boy’s body language; although his token-homosexual-pout was more than enough evidence in itself. Briefly, Chiaki wondered whether Daisuke was aware of his blatant flamboyance, but it seemed like a toss up. Not that any of this bothered him, of course.
”What did you spend all of your money on?”
”Food! I was really, really hungry.” Against his wishes, a deafening belch rocketed out of his mouth—Chiaki covered his mouth with his hand as a protective measure, but it came too late. Whoooooopsie. Looks like I’m out of practice. Again, he flushed slightly. What was it about this situation that kept making him feel awkward? The locker room had been much, much easier.
”Ahem. Uh. Yeah, I had a bunch of ramen. I could’ve had more, but you called me.”
Daisuke had been stroking—stroking? Well, it looked soft enough to warrant stroking, but it was still a little weird—a striped shirt, staring it down with the eye of a veteran shopper. ”Gonna try that on?” Chiaki asked, willing his face to return to its normal colour.

”Food! I was really, really hungry.”
Dai had to admit, the fact that Chiaki spent all his money on food was pretty damn adorable. He was tall with a fast metabolism, food was Dai's everything other than singing. He actually felt bad for disturbing Chiaki's eating with his call. "Sorry for interrupting your eating."
”Gonna try that on?”
The blush returned, "W-Well I was thinking about it." Picking it up off the rack, Dai held the shirt to his chest. " What do you think?" The question came before he could ever think about what he was asking.

”Sorry for interrupting your eating.”
”Nah, it’s okay! I’d rather go on a date with a cute boy than eat any day~ Well, unless we do both…” Chiaki laughed, watching as the other boy pulled a striped shirt up to his chest.
”W-Well I was thinking about it. What do you think?”
Daisuke blushed a lot, apparently. Chiaki liked it. It was cute. ”I think it’d look cute on you!” he sang, though in truth as far as he was concerned anything would have looked cute on him. ”I’d buy it, if I were you~ Stripes are definitely your thing!”
Eyes on the clothes around them, Chiaki spotted a t-shirt that he really, really wanted. It was pink and it had nyan-cat on it; he could wear it on weekends, or for any other casual occasion. ”Hm, what do you think?” he asked, holding the shirt up to his chest.

”Nah, it’s okay! I’d rather go on a date with a cute boy than eat any day~ Well, unless we do both…"
"I wouldn't mind doing both." Dai smiled, feeling a lot less nervous. As much as Chiaki, made Dai nervous... he also gave him an odd peace.
”I think it’d look cute on you! I’d buy it, if I were you~ Stripes are definitely your thing!”
The brought out yet another Daisuke Kudo smile, Chiaki was sure on a roll. "I love stripes so... thanks. By the way... Chiaki... would it be okay if I called you Chi? It's okay if it's...not okay" Dai mentally kicked himself for that one. Why couldn't Dai just be normal?! Chiaki would definitely like his real self better than this shy awkward idiot giant.
”Hm, what do you think?”
"Cuuuuute~" Dai cooed. "I mean... if you really want it, I can buy it for you." Good, this was good. Dai could talk in his normal voice and have a good normal conversation instead of stuttering like an idiot.

"By the way... Chiaki... would it be okay if I called you Chi? It's okay if it's...not okay"
Chiaki was sure that if he hadn't stopped himself, his jaw would have dropped through the floor and went clear to the center of the earth. What was he supposed to say again? What were words, and why were they being so stupid at the moment? "O-of course!" he said, face the colour of a thousand tomatoes. "Dai and Chi - they sound pretty great together~"
"Cuuuuute~" Daisuke had said; he thought that the shirt would look cute on Chiaki, and by extension, Chiaki would look cute. He thinks I'm cute!!~ And that little realisation felt pretty good - really good.
"I mean... if you really want it, I can buy it for you."
Chiaki waved him off, smiling despite himself. A cursory glance into the depths of his wallet - again, nyan-cat merchandise - indicated that he had just enough to buy it. As much as he appreciated the gesture, he didn't want to mooch off of Daisuke, or anything. "Don't worry, I have enough~ Thanks, though!"
Face finally cooling down, Chiaki looked around at the store again. He didn't see much else he wanted, though most of the clothes were pretty cute; the t-shirt would be more than enough for this trip. "I'm good on clothes," Chiaki said, turning back to the other boy. "But I can wait to check out until you're done!"

"Dai and Chi - they sound pretty great together~"
"Yeah, they do." Was this flirting? Is this how you flirted? Dai didn't know, but he was glad he said it. It made him feel like he was actually on a date. It wasn't miserable, it was nice and comforting.
"Don't worry, I have enough~ Thanks, though!"
Smiling, Dai said, "Fine, but if you're still hungry after we shop.. I'l buy you something then." Something was horribly wrong in the universe. Dai was acting... somewhat in control of the date. Clearly that wouldn't last long, but... it was a bit empowering for the tall uke.
Dai didn't want to keep Chiaki in this store for long. so he quickly picked out a couple of shirts and headed for the cashier. After this, maybe they could get food, Dai knew he was starving. "Um, Chi?" Dai looked at the other boy as he paid for his merchandise. "I-is there any place in particular that you want to eat?"

”Fine, but if you’re still hungry after we shop.. I’l buy you something then.”
Was that Daisuke… taking charge? Chiaki hadn’t seen that one coming, that was for sure. As much as he’d have loved to drag the taller boy around the mall, it would be nice to have equal input, and all that jazz. While Dai shopped, Chiaki went over and bought his nyan-cat shirt; bag in hand, he’d watched iintently as Dai picked out a few more shirts, hurrying through the checkout line.
”Um, Chi?” ‘Chi’ had been his nickname for all of ten minutes, and he was already irreversibly attached to it. “I-is there any place in particular that you want to eat?”
”I’m cool with wherever you wanna go! I like everything.” Chiaki chuckled lightly as the two of them walked out of the store, standing only a few inches away from his date. He stopped when they were in the hallway, looking up at Dai. ”It’s your call! I’m just along for the ride~”

No that wasn't right. Chiaki had to have some sort of place tat he wanted to go in the mall. Daisuke didn't want to seem like he was bossing him around. "We don't even need to eat if you're not hungry, you pick where we go next. I already picked."
The mall was surely crowded today, it was actually a bit hard getting out of the store. Dai could easily spot Chiaki of they got separated, but Chiaki was shorter, it would probably be hard for him. "Hey Chi," Daisuke couldn't help it, Chi was such a cute name for Chiaki and Dai loved that he would be the only one calling him that. "Do you think we should holds hands or something? I-I mean so we don't get split up you know?"

”We don’t even need to eat if you’re not hungry, you pick where we go next. I already picked.”
Chiaki debated butting in and telling Daisuke that he would have picked that store first, anyway, but decided it’d be easier just to pick somewhere. ”Umm…” he said, absent-mindedly, as he tried to fabricate a destination.
”Hey Chi,” Daisuke said, the rather large mall crowd milling about around them—again with the nickname! Chiaki really, really liked being called that. ”Do you think we should holds hands or something? I-I mean so we don’t get split up you know?”
After his obligatory blush and blatant expression of incredulity, Chiaki laughed despite himself. ”Of course, silly~ You make holding hands sound like a crime, or something!” Easily, he laced his fingers between Daisuke’s much larger ones. His hands were soft, it felt nice. ”Next time, you don’t even have to ask~ ☆”
Without any specific destination in mind, Chiaki had settled for dragging Daisuke through the mall, going in and out of stores at random. While he saw plenty of things that he liked, he wasn’t about to ask Dai to pay for any of them—it was their first date, and that would be more than a little rude.
”Okay, I’m done!~” Chiaki said, smiling. ”Wanna go sit down over there and talk?” He glanced over at a pair of plush arm chairs, cloistered in a private—ish—corner of the mall where there were comparably less people. ”I mean, we can get food if you want. I’m always ready to eat. ~”
